Reading...this post. As for the 70's hippy self-help books? I kinda enjoyed Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and I've read it a few times now. I didn't see any "ideals" in the book, just a philosophical treatise on a variation of "The Good". But I think all philosphy is a load of horseshit. The world is a heap of shit and we all dig until we find what layer of shit suites us. Either way, life is pain and lonliness, then death. Carlos Castenada's books are the dumbest piles of crap I've ever wasted my time reading. Go rub some lizards on your head. You know he made that crap up, don't you. Quit looking for answers, there are NONE. Another piece of garbage is the Way of the Peaceful Warrior. The reason I loathe this book is b/c after I read it I was like, "yeah," "totally," "this book DID change my life." Then I woke up the next day, did the mundane crap that is life, and sold the book at the used bookstore. Other garbage: 10 habits of highly succesful people. What color is your parachute. The joy of Sex. The joy of cooking. I've stopped reading books with any actual ideals, and read open ended, unanswerable human truths. Check out "The Invisible Man" by ellison. I just re-read that one. Other than that, I'd say the best books out there are childrens' books. The thick-ass stock paper w/tactile or olfactory aids are the best ones. Those books contain the only truths in life. "Any idiot can face a crisis. It's this day to day living that wears me out." -Anton Checkov (sp?)

Yup, that sums em up just about right.

There are two routes. The steep one on the left is polish bob's and the rampy one to the right isn't Kearny's route, it's not exactly sure who put it up. Either one are the prizes. I think they are more reliably in during early spring, but the hike is longer.

I bet they're off guard! sneak attack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY goodness! Such behavior on the internet? If I was either of your mothers i'd wash your mouth out with soap (or gotten out the coathanger long ago). 1. Ricardo, you have a gay sounding name so you are discredited already. 2.Will, you're obviously into this dude, but props for not backing down and being the beta-male just to avoid confrontation. 3.Send all gear in question to me and I will decide (in time) who gets it. 4.aid climbing is totally aid, esp nailing. haven't you learned???

The reason you can't find it is cuz it's not published by Globe Pequot Press anymore! Call any local retailer and they can special order it for you through Monkeyface Press (Alan's new publisher...they did the Selkirk N. guide also). Good luck

is this thread in reference to that stupid fact that the eskimos have a shitload of words for snow, passive aggresively hinting at the fact we don't, which we in fact do? If so, it's time someone spoke up.

Unusual forearm weakness coupledw/shoulder pain
layton replied to layton's topic in Fitness and Nutrition Forum
Why would you need surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome when all you need to do is stretch and loosen up your scalanes ant unless you were born with an extra rib (which i was not)? I'm going with overall tighness and posture imbalances on this one. We'll see what the student chiropractic clinic has to say on friday. -
did you do that mixed route you've been talking about , or the central couloir?

Patagucci DAS Parka or Cloudveil Enclosure Parka
layton replied to Rainier_Wolfscastle's topic in The Gear Critic
That integral designs parka isn't gonna be warm enough for cold ass belays. If you are a warm person, the wild things is a good bet. Patagucci's is almost the same, but more $$, and not quite as warm. I think the GoLite 6 Month Night is the warmest, lightest, and cheapest (a hundred smackers) one out there. Just as warm as my trusty Marmot Parbat Parka. -

Oh boo hoo. How terrible that the mountains just got a little wilder. (sob) Maybe the Ptarmigan traverse will be a little less of a mob scene next summer. With the Whitechuck and Suiattle both out, I wonder if the White River approach isn't the easiest way in to Glacier next year. Of course, there's always mountain bikes. Yeah that traverse is like wall to wall people.
