Climb: Mt. Persis-West Ridge
Date of Climb: 1/2/2005
Trip Report:
Scottp and I with canine escort settled on this as a nice way to start the year. We were able to drive all the way to the trailhead for this climb, passenger cars will have no problem until the next dump of snow. Found the trail ( orange tape ) and began the steep ascent. This trail meant business...
Encountered snow about 3300' which made passing one of the lower Talus fields quite tough. Not enough snow to cover the field but enough to make the rocks slick as ice. Finally broke into thick snow ( 6" worth ) around 4200' and did some postholing about 500' from the summit. The views were absolutely stunning of Index, Baker, Shuksan, Glaicer, Rainier, and the Columbia tower in downtown Seattle ( I am not kidding ).
Ran into one other on the way down. Round trip from the car was about 5 hours with a couple of rest breaks and lunch at the summit.
Gear Notes:
wagon, leash
Approach Notes:
road is clear all the way to trailhead at 3000'
