I'm going up there this weekend to climb it. Lemme Know if you need anything. Give me a PM on what you want. Darren
-
they usually start using it late may into june. They will wand the ID and possibly go out onto the cleaver and see when it can be routed to the top Darren
-
No new updates. I'm sure it'll be till June till the rangers go in and Scope out the area and see if they can deem it safe to hike And climb Darren
-
when the roads start melting out hopefully they'll go in and access the route and land. i dont think they will permanently close it but they may restrict access or re route the whole south side climb, there is another way but it is a longer approach. im definitely keeping tabs on it cause i got my eye on adams summit this summer ha

the gate is always open nowadays pending weather conditions. They'll tell you to sleep away from trails and water, but sleep on snow. it is allowed. Camp somewhere below panorama point, the winds above can get nasty outta nowhere darren

I was up there in January and everyone coming down from the summit mentioned that it was more broken up than usual. That was January and its almost May. Ill keep digging Darren

Hey so me and my dad are trying to plan a mt adams Mazama glacier summit push. The only thing is my dad isn't committed to it. So I'm up on cc to ask if anyone would want to come along if my dad isn't able to go. The trip is planned in the middle of August. If anyone is planning to do adams earlier, lemme know if it would be ok if I could tag along. Thanks everyone Darren

it kinda depends on your preference. I have the La sportiva Nepal Evos and went to rainier and they kept my feet warm. You can either have leather or plastic boots. Plastic may be a bit heavier but you gotta have two socks definitely. Make sure to get a half size up from your regular walking or hiking shoes.

[TR] Mt. Adams - Mazama Glacier/Headwall 7/16/2010

Did you have to get a special permit to climb in the Indian reservation? Or just a regular pass? I'm thinking of doing the Mazama glacier this summer -
Hey ive been trying to find a good lightweight not too long rope that we can use for Rainier this summer. It will likely be a 2 man team but perhaps a 3rd man will come in, im not sure. I have 30m rope but i tried that out and it is a bit too small. Im thinking of getting 45-50m rope but im not sure which brand to get it from. Any information would be great! Darren
-
Just looking for some help about rope. 8mm should be good I'm just looking for some rope that doesn't weigh a lot. You think 45-50m rope would be good enough?

Hey just wondering if anybody from Washington is eyeing avalanche gulch or clear creek trailhead or the west ridge, more leaning towards avalanche gulch thou. Early Summer or going into late but not too late. I would like if i could hitch a ride to california if anyone is going. I got all the specific gear excluding snowshoes. I got crampons, mountaineering boots and the right clothes. Send me a message if you are interested in bringing me along Thank you! Darren

How long to Snowshoe up St. Helens this weekend?
Dchromey replied to Newman55's topic in Southern WA Cascades
I'm speaking on behalf of a recent trip in early march. I did not use crampons. Snowshoes aren't a necessity but on the way down you won't need them because your just gonna fall through the snow. I just brought my boots and crampons and made it up -
How long to Snowshoe up St. Helens this weekend?
Dchromey replied to Newman55's topic in Southern WA Cascades
The trail through the trees is longer than I thought, it was a couple miles before it broke out. If there's been people out the night before with a good boot pack you should be good without snowshoes. 4 am sounds like a good start, if your in good shape you can get out of the trees and onto the route. I had crampons not snowshoes. Im not sure how much you use snowshoes but i dont think there necessary. Put the crampons on early and be safe! -
How long to Snowshoe up St. Helens this weekend?

I did it with a group of mine early march. Go to my profile and see it if you want. We left around 6:00 am and didn't get back till 4:00 at the parking lot. Leave as early as you can because there will be people. I think the earlier the better. If you can sleep there before and then get a good start. If you have crampons put them on early and especially before the last steep section. Snowshoes can get you up but crampons will be easier Darren -

Hey I'm interested in trying to summit little tahoma in mt rainier national park. I have glacier gear but I am more interested in the rock after the snow and the scramble to the summit. I've looked up reports of exposure, they use some ropes or none at all and just climb up till your at the top. Just wondering if anyone is interested in joining me and my dad. My dad is a bit obstinate so he may bow out. Send me a PM or message me Thanks Darren
