I had never been to Banks so I drove over yesterday; chains or AWD required going over snoqualmie and a Hour wait for av clearing on the way back. Conditions were bad in banks. 40 deg at mid day. If a rought saw any sun it was all but gone. If it had hangind ice it was falling off. There were some solid smears that were holding on. I can't really recomend heading over right know, wait for better conditions. The Cable: Not in. The Absentminded Professor: not even close. Devil's punch bowl and thing to the left: currently a turkey shoot (the climbers being the turkeys). We looked at it for about 30 mins and stuff was pealing off like crazy. Ice, Rocks; a death trape for sure. Pee Wee's had at least one solid route in, while others were falling apart at mid day.We TR the far right climb. I think it's a wi5. We used a 70m, Seemed like a full pitch, a 60m might work, could be a lttle short for a TR form above tree/anchor. A 60 would be plently long if v-threading. I'd wait for better conditions to V-thread, thats just me.

I'm head to tootsie roll falls this saturday, in Ellensburg. I have never been there before and its kinda small (30ft), but I hear its a good place to practice. It has been cold there and as far as I can tell no new snow. so if you or anyone wants to go let me know. With or with out tools is fine, but you'll need your own boots. 253 334 3372

Here are some pic's of CYA and the dry tool wall. Everything was covered in snow making the dry tool wall tricky. The ice is not in, if your in the mood for placing pro, but ice all the way up (thin, thin, thin).

skookum fall is not in yet. Lots of ice, but lots of water flowing. I drove up there to check it out. The road to the trail head is not plowed, and has a solid foot of snow on it. The ice might form up in the next few days because it still very cooled up there (18F @ 3pm), so there is hope. But thursday it might warm to 40, which most likely would finish it off tell the next cold snap. Ether way I'm hoping for Ice.

Hey I know how you feel. Its a bit tough to convince the old gray hairs to take a newbe along. You know how it is every one is busy and most people have a few semi-perminet climbing partners. I fairly new to ice, but have gone out with some vet and I'm willing to go out with anyone willing to try hard, and who has a bit of (uncommmin') sense. Step one is get your own Ice tools. I searched around and got a set of BD vipers for under $200. It the one thing you must have to really get into the sport. Any 12 point crampons will work. With that said a good set of mono points are worth the money your looking $110 used plus or minus, or about $180 new. If the Ice comes in some were close I'd bring you out with out your own tools and we could set up a top rope. I'm out in Sumner I'm always looking for partners. Anyone who wants to go PM me.
