Black Diamond Crossbows 187cm - original model

    Dynafit TLT bindings

Leki 3 piece polls. (sorry, no skins, those go with some other skis)

    Used but not used up.

  4. The roads to Mammoth are pretty well maintained, but, then again, storms do happen.

If the road is open the only time you'll "need" chains is at the checkpoint, in my experience they didn't bother. I wouldn't trust any "cheap" option at LAX - thats scam central because of all the foreign tourists.

  5. (Driving from LAX to Mammoth)

I never put on chains on that run (and no they never hassled me in my civic). Park at the eagle or whatever base lodge.

Avis includes chains if you rent a car in Switzerland or New Zealand :D

  6. Why is there an inherent assumption that this moves means less quality?

Because most companies moving to China are looking to cut costs, not improve quality?

At full retail there are other brands as good or better (Norrona being among those). Since it's possible to find the deadbird for 50-70% off retail, not a bad deal. Especially with the Goretex warranty - I got new ski pants this season out of that :D

  7. I agree that there is a dynamic force that depends on the velocity of the ski over the snow. What I'm saying is that there is a transfer of momentum from displacing the snow not a force due to differential velocities over opposite sides of a surface like with a wing. This is an effect similar to a boat planing which you have describes although the actual equations describing it would be much different since snow is not a fluid.

Alot would depends on the density of the snow. I've skiied some powder where it was hard to see the tracks left and it did almost flow. True "blower" pow. It would model much like a fluid.

Sasquatch will be seen in WA before that stuff ;)

  8. not sure what you're trying to say Hugh

area of the ski is what matters - people use base width underfoot as a proxy for ski area. if it was only the area "underfoot" that matter snowlerblades wouldn't be the ski equivalent of a $10 backalley blowjob

All sidecut is not the same - where matters as well as how much, so do tip profile, yadda, yadda yadda. Same with flex - theres more than stiff or floppy,

  9. North American-borns who sew are rare creatures and mostly don't want to work in a factory all day.

I remember Lotus Designs when they were an independent maker of paddling gear and PFDs had found a large number of people willing to sew in rural TN - they were good quality, cheap, and more than happy to have the work.

When Patagonia bought Lotus they quickly closed and moved production to China and let the brand wither and die.
