Yeah, you are wrong this time, buddy. There really is no comparison between the violence of the rights agenda, legislation, and rhetoric and the lefts in recent decades. Tree spiking...come fucking on.
-
Half the libtard response here is to attempt to deny that a significant proportion of the tea bagger movement isn't clapping its hands right now. This is a movement which lives, breaths, and laps up gun fantasy rhetoric. Intimidation after this attack? Wasn't our idea, but we'll take it! Pull your heads out, guys. This is for realz.

Oh, you forgot to include the burned dumpsters at WTO
-
Please come up with more. None of your examples are direct, violent attacks involving guns. You know, like shooting a congresswomen point blank in the head, then spraying a crowd with bullets. Compare that to McVeigh, the Texas plane attack, abortion docs, shooting congressmen and judges.... Very weak.

Dude, where is the historical record of leftist vitriol congruent with violent action in the last 30 years much less the last three? Your "dude abides", "same as it ever was", and "it's all the same, left or right" doesn't correspond with historical reality. Pull your head out. There were plenty of left-leaning anti-war activist groups that undertook violent opposition against bomb-factories, offices, etc during the 1960's. Is that why you said "30 years" instead of 40? That won't work, because many of these anti-government, left-leaning activist groups and anarchists carried on through most of the 70's. There are also plenty of examples of left-wing minority activist groups taking violent action. There have been plenty of violent responses from left-leaning groups. Do you really need a re-education on that? Decades old. The Left has largely abandoned violence as a tactic. Both Left and Right have changed completely since the 70s, which pretty much renders any discussion of either during that time irrelevant. Kinda like KKK's repetitive habit of resurrecting Stalin whenever j.b. mentions the health care bill, ya know? Not all that hard hitting.

Guns are the number one vehicle of lethal violence in the US, and the Right has long advocated, as a center of their platform, unrestricted gun rights. When something like this happens, the Right says "Oh, that's just one crazy...we had nothing to do with it." Combine that with recent tea bagger rhetoric embracing assassination via "second amendment solution", the target graphic, and blogs raving about the right to armed insurrection and you have the number one threat to national security in this country right here at home. Regarding crazies: as schizophenics typically flip from normal to whack job within a few days, and sociopaths become exceptionally good at hiding their condition, coupled with a population of just these two conditions of over 15 million Americans, the only way to keep guns out of the hands of the criminally insane is a comprehensive ban. Yes, the Right is not only part of the problem, it is the problem. A citizen's right to self defense need not, and should not, include gun ownership. There are a number of other safer, more effective avenues towards safety that can and should be taken. We have much higher violent crime rates than nearly every other free society, most of which substantially restrict or prohibit gun ownership. Such ownership is obviously not a prerequisite for a free society. The only gun ownership I support is for hunting. Yes, these weapons are used in crimes...very rarely. They are generally superior for home defense, as well, removing that argument.

It's easy to link Heller with specific acts of gun violence..."Duh!"...but, given the facts, there can be no such link. Heller just...didn't really matter, given the state constitutional provisions already long in place that preceded it. Don't get me wrong, from a federal standpoint, the Heller decision was historic...and largely redundant. It would be a factor if states began to amend their constitutions regarding basic right to ownership for self defense. That is very unlikely in the near future, however.
-
If that's true, and I agree that it is, there should be little reason to post propaganda from some douchebag blogger who doesn't respect his audience enough to stick with the facts.
-
This is not even close to accurate. The Supreme court never endorsed the right to 'insurrection'...that's pure propaganda. The Heller decisions was an extremely narrow one which prohibited total bans on gun ownership and recognized the right to self defense, nothing more. From a practical standpoint, the Heller decision has had virtually zero impact: 48 out of 50 states, including WA, already had stronger protections for the right to bear arms for personal protections in place when the Heller decision came down. Time and place restrictions, (no guns in courtrooms, bars, concerts, etc...) have gone, as yet, unchallenged and still stand. This is the very kind of 'blogospherical' rehashing and doctoring of an issue that continues to make for a misinformed, confused, and apathetic population.

I've had a new sig for a couple of weeks now. No chicken coup video tour required.

Our resident whack job weighs in. The Bush DOJ and local law enforcement agencies trained and inspired by same famously investigated and infiltrated a host of peaceful political groups without probable cause during that period. Ironically, violence from that left during recent years seems to be pretty much non-existent when compared that that from the right (McVeigh, abortion shootings, and now political assassinations...), which leads one to conclude that the Bush administration engaged in pure political intimidation tactics against folks protesting a war which we now all agree has been really, really bad for this country.

Kinda wondering just how long Billcoe and DD will keep this troll going. I'm amazed at the attention so far...hell, I've never even met either one of 'em. I must have something they want....whatever could it be?
-
i hope that's true, but i'm not holding my breath - like i said here, this incident ought to make any palin presidential bid stupid easy to derail remember the dude who tried to kill andrew jackson? yeah, he was fucking batshit too. its as american as apple pie. in his case, a double malfunction of his firearms saved jacksons life. it would be nice if the 2nd amendment didn't apply to post 18th century weapons technology Encouraging the commission of a crime is a crime. Given the powder keg that we are apparently sitting on, the feds should put certain media stars AND THEIR CALLERS on notice by opening up detailed investigations of their past programs to ferret criminal statements by both the show host and their callers...and prosecute accordingly under our anti-terrorism laws, which carry enhanced penalties. Inciting violence is NOT A 1st AMENDMENT RIGHT, contrary to popular belief among the far right.

No one is suggesting free speech restriction...I'm suggesting that the tea bagger's violent and racist agenda and rhetoric continue to receive a long well deserved condemnation by the public at large and laser beam, anti terrorist scrutiny by the government - recognizing this proto-fascist movement, appropriately given current events, as the number one threat to our national security.
-
What we need is the government to apply some reasonable restrictions on speech, right j_b? No, what we need is for the public to continue to roundly condemn the kind of violent rhetoric coming almost exclusively from a sociopathic, cruel, and completely irrational movement that is the New Right. Which is why I call bullshit on my good friend Rob and Ivan's suggestions that we should all simply lay down and take this as business as usual. It's not...not by historical or any other standard. It is a major, watershed moment. Yes, the shooter was batshit, and yes, he was inspired and encouraged to do violence by this fucked up new political movement that is driven by racism, selfishness, a lack of gratitude, and a celebration of other people's pain. He was also enabled by a willful and complete lack of gun control that simply is not a necessary or desirable component of nearly all other free, enlightened societies. This is not business as usual. This is a watershed, historical tragedy that hopefully will deflate the purely Right Wing insanity that inspired. Make no mistake, the Tea Baggers may complain that the Left is after a bit more of its bank account (rightly or wrongly): in return, they threaten the basic survival and well being of everyone in this country: our health care, climate, education, freedom to marry, national security...the list goes on and on. They should be dealt with as such. Hopefully, this mentally ill young man has pulled away a bit more of the veil to reveal bloody reality of that movement to anyone who's still asleep.

Today would be a great day for you to just STFU...out of respect for the dead and common decency, if that's even possible for you. Let's do that experiment, shall we?

That's the kind of made up phrase right wing think tanks like to toss around. They have about as much real meaning as a self-eating watermelon.
