  1. Guatemala and Mexico.
  2. I drove it Ford Fairmont, probably the worst snow car, if not car car, ever made, in a full blizzard. Don't do that. The Best Western used to, and might still, have a 'skier's special'. You can ski right from the hot tub.
  3. Holy shit you beat me to that punchline. Is there a pressurized option so I can ski the Martian poles?
  4. meeting time?
  5. I'll need to purchase all new matching winter clothing of course, but that'll only be a fraction of the cost of hardware.
  6. After 30 years of tely, I'm more worried about the meat puppet than the stix.
  7. Oh, I'll be just fine.
  8. No cheese? Fuck dat.
  9. Mammut, thanks. Tried on a pair of Millets earlier in the day and got confused...
  10. US Constitution no longer the world's model
  11. Well, if something's sled accessible, all bets are off. That's a hard crowd to teach manners to, given the fundamentally 'in your face, ears, and nose' nature of their recreational choices.
  12. Just tried a pair on and they seem like a great ice/winter boot. The fit/lacing is the best I've seen, insulation better than the norm, full shank, fairly light.
  13. Thinkin' Manaslu w/Dynafits
  14. I'm free Tue
  15. Atomic Drifters?
  16. Exposure works both ways: as an advertisement and as an example. Lookouts are hard to get to in the winter. That will always keep most folks away. To me, it's like polar bears. People care more about them because they've seen them in zoos or on TV. If one has an 'education' rather than 'restriction' philosophy, as I do, posting TRs showing good stewardship (and making public the kinds of carelessness we'd like to avoid in the future) would seem to do more good than harm. Restricted access may even lead to more damage if a party decides it wants in anyway. Fewer (or no) parties in winter means such damage would go undiscovered until spring...not good. It would seem that outlining the problems so far and coming up with solutions for them (proper signage, supplies, locks on shutters where needed, etc) is a better approach that would improve every lookout visitors understanding of how best to take care of these rare and invaluable historic structures. I sent Mr. Incho a PM, not realizing this TR was from last year. I don't think he logs on much here, though. Probably better to come up with a shared offer for volunteer help and then send it to his email via the Baker Club
  17. BD Aspect? Dynafit Manaslu? I'm going 95-100 underfoot.
  18. There's some discussion about how small objects can appear large when you don't have a reference point - like a water bottle looking like a person in a white out - on the Rainier forum. Same principle seems to apply here. How much should a rest area cost, exactly?
  19. Agenda item number 1 of 4 for 2012: CHECK.
  20. It passed the Senate only, but will certainly pass the House and the governor has already agreed to sign it. IE...it's going to be law soon.
  21. How about boots? Narrow foot and heel. Good fit and light weight most important to me.
  22. Yes. I once thought a floating sea gull was a cruise ship while kayaking in the fog in AK. Remove those scale cues and anything goes. Suggestion plays a huge role...I was looking out for cruise ships, not sea gulls. You weren't expecting an ownerless water bottle.
  23. Wait...the Bush Administration's story wasn't on the up and up!!!!????
  24. So what are these magical hooks of which you speak? Pics?
  25. Why am I on this? I have a problem with one poster with really weird habits often stating that their opinions represents most climbers in the PNW...and AK, for that matter. When challenged, up comes the resume bluster...a sure sign of 'no reasoning behind this opinion I can come up with'. I can think of another poster who's also got a great climbing resume...and who is also our most avid bolt ranter. Experience means little if the end result is BS. Sure, east coast noobs might buy it, they've got no in person fact checking available, but for the sake of our local noobs, I would suggest dropping the unwanted representation for 'the climbing community in the PNW so ubiquitous in Dane's posts. I mean, do you really want to be advising noobs to hit the AK range without any down clothing? Really? Sure, people have done it, but that's not only patently stupid advice, its potentially dangerous.
