So, my 7 yo son and I were discussing politics tonight. Specifically, we were discussing Senator Obama's position on various issues. "What's a senator," he asked.
"Well, that's a person who's job it is to come up with new laws."
"I think he made a mistake, Dad. Why would anyone want to be President? The President doesn't get to do anything cool. When I grow up I want to be a senator and take away all the taxes."
"But, how will the government get any money? How will they build roads, and pay soldiers?" I asked.
"Easy. The soldiers can just keep the loot they get in the war," he replied.
I laughed. "Well, what if it's peacetime. How would you pay them?"
He looked at me confused. "Why would we pay for soldiers if there's no war? Can't they get other jobs?"
