  1. Who is this twit? 1700 posts but are any TRs?
  2. I’d love to log some trigger time. I’d join if they would take me, but I have a condition.
  3. Oh brother, I know where this is going...
  4. In another thread billcoe gives a link to a blowout on Beal ropes but another poster says "but it's a Beal." What's wrong with Beal ropes?
  5. Jenny Jenny I can hear it Damn near the only thing I can remember from the 80's
  6. Those are Marines.
  7. Invading Normandy and bombing Nagasaki were solutions to end WWII. And we've not gone to war with Germany since, now, have we? Some historians say that WW I and WW II were really one war with a 20-year peace interlude between them. The point being, it's the peace following the war that determines whether war will recur. I have a memory-fragment of some famous general saying "winning" the peace that follows a war is harder than winning the war itself. But even so, 60 years of peace in western Europe is a drop in the bucket. If it lasts another 60 years, we may be onto something.
  8. That's great news, Rob. Glad to hear it, congratulations!
  9. I don't have a problem with the ad. If you do, you can stop coming here. The hosts won't be losing any money if you don't log on anymore.
  10. Just when a thread realy gets rolling downhill, someone steps in to take the high road. Major buzz kill, hefeweizen.
  11. A four mile wheelchair trail? Through the wetland and across those creeks and up that grade to the lake? Sounds like someone's practical joke (although I don't doubt the report of backhoes). Besides, since when does the Forest Service have that kind of money with so many roads out?

This was covered in FOTH 4.

    good question

What planet are you on? Exactly the opposite is the case. Even Mark Twain said "a lie can travel around the world before the truth can put its shoes on."
  14. OK, got it, lose the leash. When I started climbing we used a hip belay. Why, we even made our own ropes before every climb! Out of hemp...uphill in the snow both ways. It's gotten so easy now.
  15. Yeah, my biner is big enough too, Rob! Don't be starting that kind of shit with me, man!
  16. It appears that the home-printing option is a thing of the past. Guess Billy Joe Bob couldn't answer the technological challenge of the 'print' button. But, the parking permits are still crazy easy to get.

    bizarro

You aren't going to beat fark.com at its own game so quit trying.
  18. This thread began with a bunch of hostile vitriol, obscenity, and puerile name-calling but is ending as a thoughtful & nuanced discussion about an important topic. In other words, it's totally unnatural.
  19. Yeh, I know what to do if I drop the device which is why I don't want to drop the device. But...what's the reference to "figure 8 going out of style?" What are you talking about there? A fig 8 device?---I'm talking about leashing my belay device to my pearbiner.
  20. For a subaru dating service they sound like a short bus gang. Well, some mounties, anyway.
  21. I just rigged one from small cord (3 or 4 mm, I dunno) and used it for the 1st time Saturday. It was a bit of a bother. Before that, every time I took the device off my pearbiner I held my breath and was verry careful to hold on to it, but it looks like all I did was trade one kind of grief for another. The length is right but that's the only good thing I can say at this point. Rope evolutions slowed as I worked with the leash in addition to rope, device, pearbiner.
  22. Do you leash your belay device to your pearbiner? Or, why would you not do so?
  23. Mounties wouldn't know what to do with the hookers or the condoms.
  24. 30 pounds? Try 50! NO WAY would I go out without my Helly Hansens, flare gun, and hand-cranked radio.
