  1. Plenty of hungry fish in this little pond. Some days you don't even need to bait the hook.
  2. When I think of the word “discipline” in the context of my parents, I think of phrases like no TV on school nights, bear down, stay focused, follow through to the end, don’t be a quitter, always tell the truth, give bad news straight up and right away, work now play later. If I screwed up there were consequences, some quite uncomfortable, but neither ever laid a hand on me. Discipline, and its close cousin self-discipline, is a good thing in league with integrity, fidelity, loyalty, grit. It is unfathomable to me how anyone can make the jump from “discipline” to “beating a child.” Whaling on a little kid who doesn’t have the strength to defend him- or herself is a terrible sin.
  3. Yeah, well, I just skimmed it then jumped to conclusions. Keeping it real here on cc.com.
  4. He would have stilled the wind at Vantage Sunday. I needed to use 4WD just to park.
  5. Did my first all-up multipitch lead Saturday. In other news, I know of a small beginner's rack for sale, or will trade for bowling shoes and a pair of balls.
  6. Twight knockoff. He is just using the Cross Fit program without calling it that. Well-rounded athletic training pays off in sports performance, including mountain sports. http://www.crossfit.com/cf-info/what-crossfit.html
  7. All I said was, McCain is getting stronger while Obama and Clinton are occupied with each other. My friend’s eye is on non-party-aligned voters. She has always assumed self-described Dems would vote for whoever was that party’s candidate. However, part of HRC’s demographic might jump to McCain easier than to Obama. See http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/09/AR2008050902173.html: “The McCain campaign figures some of her supporters might be up for grabs and won't necessarily vote Democratic in the general election in November.” “ ‘…if you look at the blue-collar Democratic votes that Mrs. Clinton's been getting and then look at their opinions of Obama in these public polls, there's clearly an opportunity for McCain.’ "
  8. Everything about HRC screams "vote for McCain!" President, VP, dogcatcher...in any capacity in the presidential race she guarantees a McCain presidency. An acquaintance says she is a closet Republican out to destroy the Democratic party, the theory being that the longer she fights Obama the stronger McCain gets.
  9. which route are you gonna climb? i hear IB is classic! I'm not going to take the bait.
  10. So she's still avoiding you, huh?
  11. I am going to buy randonee bindings I don't know how to use then I am going to lead my first multi-pitch route without really being 100% clear on the concept.
  12. Glad I saw the movie. Royal said it was shot in 1964 but they had a perlon rope. I was expecting Goldline. Great sequence showing Chouinard pounding in a pin, clipping in, then taking a wrap of rope at the biner and pulling himself up on it, then using the piton as a foothold. Those embers should still be warm 44 years later! Royal seems like a kind person but spoke warily and in political generalities, as if he had been burned previously in speaking engagements and had learned not to say anything controversial. I am not saying that to mean it is a bad thing. It was what it was. I was grateful for the privilege to hear such a great figure in climbing. Key takeaway: “the zipper fall is to be avoided.”
  13. I used to be an EMT and I know a lot about drugs. Can I play?
  14. That's why the federal government created ebola and the AIDS virus.
  15. The network wasn't targeting your demographic, duh.
  16. That's the way the French run construction projects. The job would be safe, profitable, and on time if it weren't for the idiot workers. If only they could see management's brilliance...
  17. copy & paste: Royal Robbins 5/8/2008 7:00 PM Location: the main Seattle REI store Presented by Continental Divide Trail Alliance www.cdtrail.org Royal Robbins, one of the word's greatest adventures and longtime supporter of the CDTA, will share of his incredible climbs in the Washington area and how they impacted his legendary career as a climber. In addition, we'll show the The West Face, a film written and narrated by Barry Corbet featuring Royal Robbin's and Yvon Chouinard's ascent of the West Face of the Sentinel in Yosemite National Park. Following the film, members of the Continental Divide Trail Alliance will speak about the trail's historical importance as well as the ongoing need to preserve its natural beauty and purity. Grounded in the belief that the outdoors is a place of inspiration and true re-creation, Royal Robbins supports the CDTA because the organization preserves America's beautiful outdoor spaces and provides a sacred place for all levels of adventurers to explore. His outdoor apparel company contributes an annual monetary donation to the CDTA and Royal himself continues to sit on the honorary board. The CDTA's preservation and trail maintenance provides outdoor spaces for adventurers of all generations. The organization was created to assist the federal land management agencies in the completion, management and protection of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT).
