I haven't broken the skins out yet this year so I don't remember for sure, but I think the middle just isn't sticky.

Simul-climbing - I don't get the appeal
counterfeitfake replied to Bigtree's topic in Climber's Board
There is a lot of terrain where an unroped fall would be fatal, yet the climbing is easy. Pitching this terrain out takes forever. Simulclimbing is a good solution. I don't think you really see a lot of simulcragging. -

It might not be the advice you want to hear, but the best thing would be to buy some cheapo alpine skis and spend the year on the lifts learning how to use them. Skiing in the backcountry is hard and if you're a total beginner you're just going to be frustrated. I see plenty of skis on craigslist for under $100 that would be fine for a beginner. Like right here, for example. The boots are the most important part but you should still be able to find something cheap that will work.

Olyclimber's drivel is beautiful in it's purity.

armchair science is almost as good as armchair climbing!

That is true. A plan to use cloning should take into account what level of genetic diversity is necessary. I think the question of whether cloning is good for the stock population is not entirely related to the question of whether cloned products are safe for consumption.

The most important course is never taught.

There are definitely places, even in-bounds, where falling while skiing will have pretty bad consequences. -
Almost all of us acknowledge, intellectually, we are mortal. Few of have come face-to-face with another person's mortality, or our own. So most of us only have predictions about how we'll react to it. I think when you're actually in a crisis everything can change. You might think that you understand the risks in climbing and that they are worth taking, that climbing is something vital to have in your life. You might think a brush with death would not keep you from climbing again. You might be right or you might be wrong, but there is only one way to really know, and hopefully you will never find out.

Wow. You pose a really weighty philosophical question and then give people a half hour to think about it before throwing this tantrum. Are you an asshole for a specific reason or were you just born that way?

I must be missing the point. How is this different from right now, or any other point in history? Some have more wealth than others. Some starve because of it. What is the new issue? Tvashtarkatena makes an excellent point: in our economy the best thing you can do is vote with your dollar. I think a lot of people talk big about this kind of thing, theoretically, and then go and buy Brand X just like before. I think some people don't even understand what they're doing. To this end, empowering the consumer to make choices that are in line with their beliefs, I'd support the use of some kind of "clone free" sticker. EXCEPT, I think the primary purpose would be to feed on the fear uncertainty and doubt- people are ignorant and anything new seems scary. A clone is a genetic copy of an organism. It doesn't seem like there should be any reason cloned products are dangerous. I'm all for gathering evidence one way or the other, but it seems obvious to me which way I should believe in lieu of any evidence.

Maybe clones can be made to be sterile but I thought that "clone" generically meant an exact genetic copy.

Hasn't kevbone earned a special title above his avatar yet?

Hey! Isn't that just a fancy way to say "people are dumb"?

Wow, you can get gout in 7 days? Here is an informative article on gout. On the plus side you get to eat strawberries and cherries, unfortunately you gotta stop drinking alcohol.

So like I said in the other thread before it got kevboned, I am wondering what makes meat or milk from a cloned animal questionable. Is there any real basis for questioning it or is it just that it seems creepy? I guess I give the FDA about as much credit as most other government agencies. But my gut feeling is that the F part is more faith-worthy than the D part.

Well...lets see. I spend my free time climbing and not being a computer geek. I call bullshit. So, so loudly.

dude... go back to the top of the thread and read it this time. it was a rhetorical question. thanks for spraying.

On this BBS you click the "add link" button and there is a freaking wizard that comes up to do it for you. It has instructions on it. How can you not figure it out?
