  1. I am thinking that the people around here are just kind of uppity bitches and are too good to say thank you. Or maybe they're too oblivious to realize someone has been considerate to them. I've never lived anywhere else though so maybe some transplant can comment? Al_Pine, your posts seem angsty. Reading between the lines, it sounds like you have women problems. My guess is the problems are: they don't like you because you're a dick. Ok technically that's just one problem.
  2. I try hard to be a courteous driver. I almost always let you into my lane when you need it. Even when you've pulled a fairly jackass maneuver like trying to pass me just as your lane is ending, I go out of my way to leave a gap for you. Sometimes it's very obvious. Sometimes it involves me stepping on the brake, which I hate to do. But it's better this way, it doesn't do traffic any good to block you out as punishment. And I'm being nice. So why don't you wave?
  3. It seems like a bad idea to me too. Not a disastrous idea, but a bad idea.
  4. I think there's no info on harnesses in the Gear Critic section because nobody cares about what harness they use.
  5. which in this case is http://www.cascadeclimbers.com/plab/data/503/18STC_2965a.jpg
  6. Cuz you're not putting in the URL for an image, you've gotta right-click the image and look at "properties" for that.
  7. ... man. Re: driving- there will be times when I am willing and able to drive for 12 hours, and many more times when I am willing and able to drive for 4 hours. Of course the best ice is not found in Washington, but sometimes you make do with what you've got. Re: ski boots- mostly an accident. Thanks for all the advice everyone, I appreciate all of it, and I especially appreciate the advice I asked for.
  8. You're right, sorry, I've seen plenty of cat owners with your style. So tell me, have you ever had a cat that wouldn't eat what you fed it?
  9. Objectively, yes. If you weren't providing her with all these options she would either have died of malnutrition or learned to eat what she was given. I'd bet the latter would happen before the former. But this is a key element in the psyche of the cat owner, you want to cater to your cat's pickiness. And it is in the psyche of the cat to appreciate almost none of what you do for it.
  10. Giving it to your secretary is one of the perks of holding office.
  11. People can be dishonest on- or off-line, at some point you have to decide whether you think you can trust 'em, and then take the chance. I say go for it if you have a good feeling about him. I've met cool people online, both romantically and non-romantically. And of course he's hoping to get laid, that is normal. If he's not a jackass he also realizes that it's never a sure thing. And if you've been flirting with him for six months you must be open to the idea. So there you go- it's a first date.
  12. I used their website to order a pair of long spring bars for my crampons, and I got them in a pretty timely manner.
  13. Let's say you're an ice n00b. Like so: Where do you want to go this coming weekend? Needs to be within a reasonable drive from Seattle. I'm hoping for easy leading or toproping. Leavenworth, Vantage, Banks Lake... it's so cold it seems like it will all be in, so I guess I'm more wondering about specific climbs.
  14. Why do you guys allow these couch-shredding allergen-generating urine sprayers in your homes?
  15. not only is that just not work-safe, it's not safe.
  16. i got served.
  17. It's really hard to have a serious exchange of ideas with a clown. No doubt. I think that pretty much sums up this thread.
  18. "the other"? don't do that.
  19. check out my icon!
  20. ridicule, ridiculer, ridiculest... i'm the ridiculist.
  21. Well said. Good science attempts to remove human biases from the picture, but it's unavoidably a human effort just like everything else we do. So good science is hard.
  22. In the history of humans, how many opinions have been changed? I think it happens occasionally. But the internet seems to make it much easier to be rude and dismissive to another's point of view.
  23. There's an obvious dichotomy between the tenets of religions, and the actions of those who profess to believe in those religions. Sometimes the two can be very divergent. So too with science and it's followers.
  24. Wrong, science is agnostic about what existed before the big bang. Current science can't even explain what happened immediately following the big bang. You really don't know what you are talking about.
  25. ha ha ha ha awwwww
