  1. They have to do something with it within 1.5 months though. It (Dr,Mb) can't sit in the water. Utilization up to 2.5 rads though. No idea what the FDP's are like in the States.....grapple shows are not conducive to mixed harvesting. At least 15% deflection needed for hardwood (no ground lead). Did you mean better than a lot of softwood? Ya it is worth more than Lodgepole after Dendroctunus is through with it. I wouldn't lay that shit out for Interfor!
  2. Friggin' loggers ruining our environment I engineer cut-blocks for a living and see such a small amount of merch wood in that photo it is not funny. There is a 40ha patch at center right that looks decent. Mixed stand=garbage growth and yield
  3. NTS is brutal...I agree. I change my all my GPS'd positions in Road Eng. by 50 to 100m....you are right about that. Very specific Riparian Management needs to be hand traversed for this reason....so TRIM 2 will have a use for commercial pratices I guess. Using a GPS to find your way around in mountainess terrain is not cool. Anyone who needs this should stick to trails or learn to use a compass and map. I don't think I would like to look at a 3cmx4cm map on my GPS anyway....I like those shitty TRIM sheets that are all black and white. But that's me. (sorry for the thread drift sno)
  4. We were using a variation of that at work. The relevence of a scale that large for mountain use eludes me. Use basemap for any particulars. Is there micro terrain that relevent that anyone would feel needs a larger scale?
  5. Update: I ended up getting my CAT scan back and the disc was fully herniated. Was impinging my S1 (nerve root) on two levels, and I was getting "drop foot" and my right leg would seize while walking through extreme pain. Had a (successful) discectomy/laminectomy, and now am 1 week post-op and, while in pain, things are looking and feeling a lot better. Thanks for the advice, PM's etc,.....some fucking thoughtful people on this site despite the bullshit!
  6. Interested to see the results of the "pick 4". Fo sho post your findings. Govt' has stopped printing on TRIM sheets.....makes me sad.
  7. phone Lakeside Pacific...talk to John (area engineer). Good people. Report any vandelism to Bear Creek Camp...good people.
  8. I had a mountain lion stalk me for over 30 minutes while working in Knight Inlet (Canada, and I guess not the Cascades). Scariest 30 minutes of my life!! We had our wildlife biologist come in and try to find out if we were going to log his den/primary habitat. He said they saw it briefly, and estimated it at 160 pounds. I could not believe the size of the fucker! They also said it was probably more curious than anything, and if it was after me, I would never have seen it. Most beautiful animal I have ever seen though. Funny thing is when I returned home from my shift, they were interviewing a guy on the news because he SAW a mountain lion while fishing in Squamish
  9. lol, there is some great info in amongst the flaming here. Mike, my thoughts were that chiro's were mainly beneficial for "manipulation". I did not think a bulging disc fell into this category, but I have set up an appointment (thank god for the wifes ext. medical) with a chiro. I don't see how it could hurt. Matt, eric etc. Some good suggestions here. Much appreciated.
  10. gslater, I too am a little worried about "missteps". What can you do? My work involves me climbing over deadfall/slamming through ugly terrain for 9 hours a day.....might be part of it. Mike, I appreciate the suggestion, and have to admit I don't have a lot of info on what chiro's can do for discs. I am going to seek out that route now. Like I say, I have read a lot of conflicting info regarding chiro's and disc problems. At this point (it feels like it is getting better) I am just worried about "flaring" it back up.
  11. To be honest, both of my setbacks have occurred when I stopped doing daily stretching/core strength exercises. That I guess has to be a part of me daily routine for a long time. I use the traction bed at physio (Mike, is this what you mean by "flexion/distraction table"?), and have a group of exercises that I do. Acupuncture has helped a little, but I am more interested in combating the issue, not the symptoms. gslater, are you affected by hiking/climbing? Mike I have heard that Chiro's and discs can be a sketchy combination....but this comes from my GP who told me my problem was a "pulled muscle" about 4 years ago. I have also been told that the disc (nucleus pulpous?) will eventually "dry up".
  12. I did a search and found a few good threads on this. Just wanting to hear some more discussion or updates from anybody that is/was going through this. I have a bulging/slight hernation of my L5/S1. It happened about 8 months ago (I actually suffered from this for about 6 years but in a much smaller degree). I was able to get it back in decent condition in about 3 months, in which the first month I experienced mind numbing pain! It lasted about 3 months and I suffered a setback due to sitting too much studying. I was not able to get it back to where it was when I re-habbed it the first time. I recently had a problem at work, and have had to take more time off. Lots of sciatic pain. I was told that just to see a neurosurgeon (I live in Canada) would be 1 year on the wait list. I got to talk with the assistant who told me there is no way they would operate on me anyway (I am 30, and do not suffer any of the debilitating symptoms that require surgery). I have started acupuncture, along with my regular PT, and am scheduled to see a retired Neuro who administers nerve blocks (ESI). Hiking (and climbing) don't seem to hurt my back that much, especially if I can take a few days off after. Anyone have any advice, or can share their experience with this? A tad frustrated at this point!
  13. Nice. The North Creek bit made me spit out my Cheerios. I was wondering how you made out.
  14. Jordo there is a cabin up Blowdown. Below the prominent pass 2km North-east of "Cirque Lake". Met some sleds this year in Van Hor that were transporting supplies to build "something". Is this the hut you're referring to, or is this another? Oleg/Olds I found better access via North Joffre Creek (north fork). Spetch doesn't seem like a logical ski access to any of the Place Glacier area. The road reaches the prominent creek draining the south fork of Spetch Creek. There is a massive headwall at the head of Spetch. The summer trail follows the south fork towards Saxifrage and Cassiope (good spring ski access). The run off Oleg is indeed excellent! The two southern sub-peaks of Cirque hold good turns as well.

  20. berdinka those are niiiiiice!
  21. "Dynafit bindings, Garmont Megaride boots, K2 Shuksan skiis" This is what I ski. If I read your post right, you're not too concerned with skiing steep and deep lines are you? If you want to save bucks in this set up, go for "Hagen Tour Carve" skis, or another Hagen lower end product. If your new to AT, you might find a lot of your time is spent at lower elevations (it seems to work that way), and it might be a good idea to have your first skis be "rock skis". Unless we get a huge snow year that is.
