  2. Just ask skyclimb about his adventure with corvallisclimb. sorry to steal your glory guys, but I gotta post your picture of the rope. This is what they found at the top of a jug line left for 2 years in the mountains. Thats definitely an "I almost died" moment.

    Firey plant burns!

I was using a weedwacker at work and tore through a plant called cow parsnip. The sap from this plant causes rashes and burns on the skin. I have a few nice little blisters and dark red spots on my forearm(only exposed part of my body then) The interesting thing about this plant's sap is that whe eposed to sunlight, it will cause the clisters and rashes to become semi permanent(~3 months). A page about it is here and there is a video on the cnn.com page currently about it but i cant figure out how to link to it and it might be gone later. I know I have seen this plant in the woods, so be careful when you are swinging that machete bushwacking into various climbs. sucky.

  13. Memorial Day weekend traffic deaths nearly top record Eight people died in Oregon traffic crashes over the Memorial Day weekend, the highest fatality figure for the holiday in 19 years. Oregon State Police officials said that between 6 p.m. Friday and 11:59 p.m. Monday, four fatal traffic crashes occured that resulted in the deaths. Nine people died in 1987 during the holiday. The crashes include: -- Four people killed Friday in a multivehicle crash on Oregon 126 near Springfield. -- A motorcyclist who died Saturday in a single vehicle crash on a county road near Bend. -- A woman who died early Monday after being ejected from a vehicle in Tigard. Police suspect alcohol and speed may have been a factor in the accident. -- A husband and wife who were killed after being struck by a vehicle on Oregon 47 in Washington County. OSP troopers arrested 81 motorists across the state for driving under the influence of intoxicants, matching last year's totals for the holiday weekend. They also issued more than 1,650 speed-related citations, an increase of about 20% from last year when 1,330 speed-related citations were handed out. There were 250 people who were given tickets for safety belt and child safety seat violations. In the Coos Bay area, troopers stopped a woman and cited her for driving nearly 20 mph over the posted speed limit. Two hours later, she was stopped and cited again for driving 74 mph. Police said the woman was so upset at being stopped a second time that she peeled out after getting a ticket and nearly struck another vehicle while entering the highway. The trooper stopped her again and cited for careless driving. "The three main safety factors -- speed, impaired driving and proper use of safety restraints - we talked about before the holiday weekend were once again major factors in several injury and fatal crashes this holiday weekend," said OSP Captain Gerry Gregg, director of the patrol services division." -The Oregonian I particularly like the section about the lady getting pulled over 3 times in a day.

  15. I love how these threads always degenerate to "Dru vs. the World"
  16. I am coming up from OR to the sasquatch festival for memorial weekend at the gorge and wanted to know if anyone would be up for a jaunt in the climbing area. I've been in the feathers before but dont really know the area at all other than that.(are there other climbing areas in Vantage?) I climb .11 sport and .9 trad (is there any at vantage?). cheers , ~Ian
  17. Thats really cool! It would be great to see them there again. This site says they might be coming down from Canadia and also mentions sightings. http://www.conservationnw.org/wildlife-habitat/gray-wolf Gosolo, you might report your sighting to the organization above.
  18. Do they exist? I have met several people who claim to have either seen a lone male in the area or claim to know of one. Seen him before?
  19. clog cams?
  20. I think he was referring to pre euro influenced native americans climbing V4. I bet they could climb at least V10 barefoot.
  21. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6173286/ Betcha you thought I was talking about climbing huh.
  22. Know how to get ahold of them? They are Oregon climbers. Possibly Corvallis area but in the Willamette Valley somewhere.
  23. If you anticipate cooking for more than 2 people, the dragonfly's wide base is golden. You'll wish you had it when you knock over that big pot that was sitting on 3 toothpick-size arms
  24. If you invest in a synthetic ~20d bag, how long will it keep it's temp rating? I've been told 3-5 yrs depending on storage(stuffed or loose) and then it looses 5d per year after that due to fibers breaking down. Have you found that to be true? Should one compensate for this by getting a slightly warmer bag? high humidity is also going to make it feel colder. In dry atmosphere you can probably get away with a higher rating.
