Just trying to back up my friends. I would hope, you would do the same. As for my experience. I do not have a lot of mountaineering experience. But lots of blizzard like conditions while skiing and back country skiing. I do know what bad weather is all about. Making decisions can be difficult. All and all it really does not matter what I think or you think. All that matters is nobody got killed. Including Velvet!

Holy cow…..this is the speculation thread. I know the owner and the dog. Matty would not put Velvet in harms way. Velvet is experienced in climbing. Matty is also experienced in climbing. Sounds like it was an “accident”. I am just glad everybody walked away from this. Just remember we were not there. We are only going of hearsay. Just because you would not bring a dog on the mountain doesn’t mean shit. Velvet was named because Matty found him in Black Velvet Canyon wandering around. Brought him back to camp. We had a dog on the road trip from then on. Velvet has a heart of gold.

This dog did not think it was good time. I know this dog and he is a great dog. Matty (his master and climber who fell on Hood ) and I were in Red Rocks about about 2 years ago and he climbed Epinephrine with his girlfriend and came back to camp with a dog. Apparently someone had dumped the dog off in the canyon. Or lost it. Anyway Matty named him Velvet after finding him in Black Velvet Canyon. Been with him ever since. Hope they are alright.

Just found out about the accident this morning involving “the dog”. Sorry I was out of town. I know this dog and his master. Good friends of mine. I am so glad they are ok. Way to go velvet.

My grandmother climbed hood in 1949. She told me that when she got to the top there was a horse on the summit. Crazy.
