Face it Joseph. You have no real argument other than “it’s not going to happen”. It will always be a screwed up situation at Beacon. Yes the hikers don’t generally position themselves on the south face….so what. I think the folks in charge should close 300 feet in ALL DIRECTIONS of the nest. Then the trail would have to close. End of story. The simple truth of the matter is the birds do just fine with thousands of tourist hiking up ever day. The trail is about 200 feet from the nest (assuming they are nesting on or around Big Ledge). So logic would have us believe the birds would do just fine with the climbers only climbing the SE corner and over to the right. Why the stringent closure? The rangers are just plain lazy? I don’t get it…….why close the trail down? It is all just too convoluted to even try to understand.

The south face of Beacon is not small IMO. There is plenty of room for climbers and birds....hell they seem to think there is enough room for thousands of tourist and birds.

What about hundreds of thousands of hiking tourists near the nest? How come that does not bother the birds? Why do ONLY CLIMBERS GET THE SHAFT on this one? I am talking about the Beacon closure obviously..... I agree with most of what you say about giving the birds a lot of space....but this particular closure is very one sided. The smallest user group (by far) at Beacon gets picked on. Elaine pointed out that the Picknick lunch wall had closures last year because of the birds. You could still climb single pitches. Please tell me why the entire south face and the SE corner of Beacon has to be totally closed to climbing when the birds nest 300 feet off the ground on the upper south west corner.....right near the hiking trail.

You are correct in that this particular closure is very restrictive and only restricts the very smallest of Beacons user groups. Too bad we could not get JH's energy behind such a perspective.
