  1. got hosed on hood saturday. so climbed in the sunshine at smith. fantastique! i don't do much facey stuff, and that tuff took a little getting use to. oh, in sharp contrast, smith has the best outhouse on the planet. joshua, if you're out there
  2. man! how often to they clean out their outhouses? if yesterday was anything to go by, i'll think twice about returning. yuccch!!!
  3. someone should start another thread on "worn-out obnoxious inanities" that have offered endless hours of enjoyment, by some. but it wouldn't seem funny in the real world, would it.
  4. okay i got through some of that before my boss walked by. do it gotta spell it out: "how about a nice big cup of shut the fuck up" was offerred in copious amounts all bloody week long. in fact, it grew into offers of buckets.
  5. bloody hell, i'm not smark enuf to attach the image of American GI wearing brain bucket, with steaming mug in hand.
  6. i gave mike $1500cdn per hour for 1.8hrs in 2005. that was in the long ranger. we scored significantly, with an unplanned dovetail on the exit flight! and i made out a cheque to my 3 chums ~$180 each. as a token of our appreciation, we wanted to send him a custom "mug" with the GI's slogan - know which one i mean? boy, that slogan got too much air time at camp.
  7. aren't those manicured service roads
  8. the dawg is a more burly bike, and one that my 230lb buddy had to buy, for obvious reasons. used as an approach bike tho, for carrying over deadfall, log bridges, creeks, etc. in addition to the 45lb pack - i think any extra wgt. is begrudged mightily.
  9. yeah kikapu! on cursory research the kikapu met my criteria. then my own field testing confirmed that it was a good climber (despite propedal lockout being not 100%)....just as articles purported, and which information again i discovered after my purchase. i desired the kikapu deluxe actually, but that was an extra $1000Cdn. critiscm i've read by testers mention that the deluxe (lighter) handles like a beaut, but the frame doesn't hold up to their heavy abuse - after a year. this article was about a year or two old i think. reason for purchase: x-country which i'd like to get into more, and logging rd approaches (yuk). show us your bike when you get it!
  10. i always say never again to bicycle approaches. but somehow i forget my vows. since i thrash my poor wimpy bod enough, i skipped the hardtail. my bike - Kona Kikapu (silly or cute, take your pick) is an acceptable wgt. could be better, but i can strip it down some - if i feel like putting money into it. it has lock-out to eliminate energy sucking pedal induced bob. it does the job well. btw: it's cheaper to get all your options at the shop on the initial purchase. i didn't know any better. sales seem to happen in january.
  11. tx for some of your weekend interest. i continue to endeavour here, to gain new, exciting, valuable, unemployed climbing friends for mid-week malarkey my last set was great, while it lasted. but they've evaporated between Oregon and Thailand now FYI: driving to Whistler on Friday. who needs a ride? PM to 5ish on Thursday.
  12. *chirp* hey, i still have an infinite number of vacation days to use up. PM me if you can take FRIDAY off for a lark. you chaps with rock ideas, well - the preceeding days look kinda wet. it will be a day on sticks, unless you're thinking aid.
  13. 'k you hosers. last call to flush out anyone thinking of skiving off tomorrow. join us for whistler friday. pm until 5 today.
  14. that's great info fishstick. lots to mull over. can't wait to apply!
  15. fishstick, 120cm? wow! do you have to really work it for tight turns? i'm ruminating on 140. dru, that set up sounds like those sucky yellow snowshoes - grivel?
  16. was checking out $199 skis at lunch. mostly 140 to 145cm; one or two 150cm. what's the shortest you'd go with for bc? don't care about speed.
  17. tx for spelling that out! i've been going through these permutations too. i think i'll go with: re-uniting my scarpa vegas with the silveretta set up (now that i've learned to stay upright); and finding a bargain on dynafits for my skiboots; i do keep light wt. hand-me-down leather, 3pin tele gear around incase of a fantasy, long flat approach.
  18. sounds like horbein is still up for the bigger peaks. but he just moved out of WA.
  19. *bump* banked a goodly amount of 2004/2005 time. enjoy running myself ragged on weekends. i value mid-week for recovery, but i'm forced to use this time up. if this winter is better than '04/'05 i'll be chirping up weekly for: mellow to adventurous stuff...it don't matter. will roam btwn Pemby and Manning/N.Cascades. AI or WI nonsense; Squish / Erie; AT'er - adventurous "novice"; slow shoes - super duper expert; or just hiking the dogs.
  20. are you joking? if so, please use the sarcasm font
  21. i was dumb enough to want to if we had, we would have summited fricken welch. we reached 7530' but if the snow was any harder it would have meant front pointing or doing the 2, 3 o'clock thing up long stretches of 45d. call me a weenie, but if that had gotten to be the case i'd be rather uncomfortable with just my mountain axe. found some noisy styrofoam on and off. what is a rognon?
  22. i'm interested. pm your home number. but i might have to hit the hay around *8pm tonight*; gone all day saturday. proly return home *~8pm saturday*.
