"The feeling of being on an undocumented line is indescribable, and I have taken to not reporting my ascents of "undocumented" lines, because I wish to leave that same experience to subsequent teams... I share reports with close friends whom I think might enjoy a particular climb, and given the traffic in the Cascades these days, I prefer not to claim that any climb is a "first ascent" - I consider it more accurrate to report the climb as being a previously undocumented one."

yes they do! I also heard they made a substantial donation to nwac (rad) but now they have advertisements on the website and I hope they keep they information accurate there as well! A snow report can be the deciding factor for a family to come up skiing. so fudging the report a little is pretty common practice, but i hope they keep it out of nwac!

I did not post that comment to speak negatively about what you are working on Lowell, just in reply to Sol's comment and trying to explain why myself, and maybe others like me, have not reported descents/ascents that they have done. Those are my opinions and I am not trying to change anything, and I am definitely not complaining. I spend hours looking at guidebooks, magazines and websites, which i realize sounds hypocritical...but you gotta feed the beast. You sound really defensive in your post and I am sorry if I offended you and the work you have done, both in the mountains and with your website. -
[TR] Mt Shuksan - NW Couloir Climb and Ski Descent
AJScott replied to Gaston's topic in North Cascades
I personally don't put a lot of work into telling people what I have done in the mountains, but that is not to say I don't do it. But when I do, I feel guilty about it. Like I am doing all of this for my ego. Spending time in the mountains means the world to me. It has defined my life. For me it doesn't matter who did what, when, or where. I think it destroys a wild unknown place, and turns it into a cookbook of sorts...hike this far, climb this and that, you will need this piece of gear and this and that. Imagine if there was no CC.com or guidebooks, every climb/descent could be a first. I personally try to avoid beta and never carry a map or compass. But this discussion probably belongs somewhere else and not in a badass TR! Nice work again Gaston and partner!!! -

WOW! way to get after it early season homie!!! baker did get a lot more snow than anywhere else in the state, nice job taking advantage of it when most people are bitching about it not snowing!! My friend ben and I dropped into the NW kewlie from the top after ascending the white salmon in 2008. it was april 22 and we were blessed with boot deep powpow! one of my favorite days in the hills. could be first complete descent...dunno. the ski from the top is the only way to ski it though, the entrance slot to the face is really cool! -
!!!that looks soo nice right now with our current weather situation!!

nice work guys! I have looked at the ridge a lot from around the area...always looks so rad! looks worth repeating for sure! jimbo i still have your fleece in my truck.

also dan is downplaying that pitch he lead...it was 50meters to his last piece of pro when he pounded that piton in. And the stance from where he pounded it in was so sketch!! seriously survival climbing!!!
-
I cant believe that last picture, it was totally dark out when you took that! I thought overall this was a really good experience. Dan has an amazing ability keeping his composer in shitty climbing. We were talking about Bear while we were up there Dan, how bads the approach from the states??
-
k. even though im going skiing this weekend that was enough stoke to get me to change gears! time to put the skis away
-
no way sol, plenty of other skis left! i am getting excited for alpine rock though, soon as i get a few more skis done. Geoff I can only climb if you lead everything, I quadruple pulled a butt muscle. And i hear you like taking care of injured climbers!! And yes, approach was made via phelps, snow free and after some tree removal the road is drivable all the way up! go get sum, n. face of maude will be gud to go for a while!

Trip: MF7FJ - Date: 5/30/2009 Trip Report: Left town on saturday and made it to the trail head after some tree removal around 11. Camped a lil below the summit of maude and woke up and waited for a stupid cloud that lingered over maude preventing the snow from ever really warming up. Dropped in only to find the cornice broke and took a nice slab with it on the face causing a few tense moments negotiating the transition. Made quick work of skinning up Fernow, such a nice skin line! at one point near the top I was skinning along a knife ridge of snow with big air on both sides. felt great! skied the sw face of Fernow from near the top and had to take my skis off for a 200 ft downclimb. super fun ski and want to get back earlier for a ski off the top. Had time to ski Seven Fingered Jack that day but upon arriving at the col to a perfect bivy site and plenty of food decided to spend another night and get better ski conditions in the morning. Was able to ski 50 feet below the summit all the way down into the woods. While skiing a nice lil kewliar i got caught up in the perfect moment and didnt watch my sluff. got put on my ass and stopped myself with my whippet but not before my ski tip tapped the wall and broke a foot of the end of my ski still managed to link turns down into the woods, and then once at the valley floor the snow was continues again and skied to within a mile of the truck! great skiing!!!

We followed your tracks the same weekend and had a different story for sure, thanks for the tracks to follow. wonder how we didnt cross paths? maybe skis helped us out...
