You're right, I am now inspired to resist it. So what size house should we set as the standard, above which all should be burned? Should we check to see if anyone's inside, or should we resist population overload also? I'm going to go slash SUV tires and key some Hummer doors tonight- anyone want to join? OMFG, you're so off the sidewalk and into the weeds that I can't even see your head up yr ass anymore. I never said we should go around burning shit, and I never advocated violence as a solution to anything. I think I remember saying it was a pretty stupid demonstration. All I said was I don't feel any sympathy for the developers. You do, apparently? I'm sure they're crying all the way to the bank. Maybe you can meet them halfway and comfort them. 8D yeah, fuck those developers. trying to make a living and shit.

this introduces a conundrum. who's house do you burn down first? the family of 5 in a 3000 square foot house, who are overpopulating the world, or the 1-2 occupancy, suburban yuppy or retiree 4000 sq ft mcmansion.

easy to say, now that you've got yours Now that I've got my 4,400 sqft multi-million dollar mansion? this thread has gone beyond the 4400 sq ft mansion, has it not? from bemoaning urban sprawl (that would include 2000 sq ft family homes, would it not?) to the loss of childhood "secret places".

    Dude, WTF? That's lame.
  18. Thread drift. But man, are there too many people in the world, or what. Every now and then I meet American adults who have chosen to remain childless though. Um, Rob, the "9 trillion" he is referring to is the Federal Debt in dollars--not world population which currently hovers at around 6.5 billion... with a B. I assumed rob knows that it he was just contributing to the thread drift.
  19. Thread drift. But man, are there too many people in the world, or what. Every now and then I meet American adults who have chosen to remain childless though. yeah, and it's *americans* that are contributing the most to the continued rate of growth in world population
  20. *yawn* there's nothing stunning or unprecedented about the last 4 or 8 years in the US, or 20 for that matter. at least not in a negative sense.
  21. of course for them too - i just am not very optimistic it'll happen - how much longer can this house of cards we've built go on standing? oh, chicken little, the sky is falling! things looks pretty damn good today compared to the civil war, any year in the great depression, the depths of WWII, etc etc. fuckin-a. this thread is about whether you are better off now than 4 years ago, not whether the whole country has gone to shit - IT HASN'T. Get a fucking grip people.
  22. lincoln refused to recognize the confederacy as an independent country Do you really think that GWB's actions are any worse than, say those of Andrew Jackson (Trail of Tears), William McKinley (Spanish American War), Woodrow Wilson (war monger beneath a guise of liberal/pacifist), FDR (attempted dictator), or the administration of Ulysses Grant? i've mentioned several of those guys in past threads as assholes of course, so no need to switch horses now - i'm not terribly worried about comparing the level of asshole - bad is bad. fdr left a better legacy overall for certain than bush. jackson's on the 20$ and i seriously doubt gw will be getting any monetary enshrinement now grant at least could do SOMETHING right before he was president. mckinley had better taste in vice-presidents and at least could WIN the stupid little wars he got us involved in. certianly, GW will be leaving our country in a weaker place at the end of his presidency then all the prez's you mentioned, except maybe grant (who at least had a fine beard, and oh yeah, also managed to make it onto the 50$!) Grant was one of the worst presidents we've had. And who gives a shit if he's on our currency?
  23. where? where?
  24. Sorry to spoil your day there, Halifax. I took Fairweather's bait and I shudda known better. I do think our various interpretations of the Bill of Rights are worthy of discussion, though. there were already lots of good points in the thread. we have a constitutional right to bear arms, and there are limitations to that right. is one valid limitation to prohibit firearms in NPs? I think so - but several folks here don't.
