  1. Up on W Cady over the weekend snow was pretty solid above about 4500, higher on S facing stuff. I think perceptions of a heavy pack are more correctly indications of a cold spring. It's vanishing by leaps and bounds this week.
  2. Great report & photos. Great corner of the world, eh? and a bit involved to get to. I'm curious about the approach: would Eldo Creek and thence around and down via the pass between Eldo and Eldo Needle be simpler if a bit longer?
  3. I make the best pie in the known universe...well the best pie in the upper Sky valley anyhow. It's not really very good for you, but nobody seems to really care; they never leave any on the plate.
  4. Nice juxtaposition with the "Can You Feel It" thread, chief.
  5. I too think this is a good idea for a thread & a good place to have it. There are, of course, any number of dedicated photo sites on the web, but they all seem to lean heavily towards slathering over equipment. When I shot film, in particular when I stuck to one film (Kodachrome) the technical side of things was really pretty simple. Certain lighting could be relied upon to produce good stuff and other lighting guaranteed pretty boring pix, worth taking only if it was the only time you were ever going to be there. The digital medium, both camera and post processing, introduces so many more variables into the works...I'm still strugggling a bit to keep track of them. Consequently I happily devour any and all wisdom about such things that I come across,
  6. That is a very cool photo.
  7. Kurt I am relieved to to hear you are on the mend. Get well quick, eh?
  8. Mea culpa. Point taken.
  9. Scuse me. My bad. Knight Inlet. There's an arm up there someplace, dammit. South Bentnick? Turnagain? My point remains.
  10. I posted that because in the past that road had been gated without regard to the fact there were vehicles inside, or, without having checked. Whichever it was, my friends found themselves locked in, miles from someone with a key, without so much as a "Tough Shit, Sucker" coupon on their windshield. To say they were highly inscensed is an understatement. Had they been hauling ass to seek aid for an injured person the results could well have been tragic. That clarified, I really hope the discovery of the car will shed some light on what happened to Roger. As difficult as it is to have someone you know and care about meet an unfortunate fate, it is a thousand times worse to never know what happened. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
  11. To each their own, I guess. I can't see the missing the hike up the Mile and the Palmer as missing very much. At some extremely subjective point it all gets very silly. How many people climb Rainier from Longmire or Waddington from Franklin Arm?
  12. This may not be appropriate for this thread & there's a number of facts I don't have but: I know in the past people have been locked "in" the Chiwawa with no prior warning when the FS just decided it was a good time to close the gate. In that light maybe driving the roads before locking them up might have resulted in the car being found in a more timely fashion.

You stayed gone.....a week? What's more destructively addictive: heroin, nicotine, or spray?
  15. Might be a good spot. There are two tunnels under Cowboy Mountain already. The sun still comes up in the morning, birds chirp, etc., etc., Why not three?
  16. The Foss Road? Where?
  17. I deleted all the Index stuff from that day cause it was crappy & backlit. Hope yours turn out. The crappy pic below isn't going to make anyone's desktop but I thought it was sort of cool to see how the snags were once many and the live trees quite dinky. Davis Holland P2, spring 1970.
  18. Lemme see what I got. It's a little tough on accounta when the light is OK on Gunn, you're shooting into the sun on Index/Persis & vice versa
  19. Yes, sorta. A little earlier in the year. Somewhere in the archives, amidst all the jillions of photos of town from the top of the wall, is a wide angle shot, with a train in it, taken in June...but just exactly where escapes me at the moment.
  20. Actually a screw top wine, in gallons, is most appropriate...but only when the store is out of "Old English 800."

Naaa...You'll pretty much forget about it. Once in a while, maybe, you'll think about one, but only rarely. Day 7? No sense in bailing now, you're past the crux.

Hey, cool! Stay on it. You can do it. You do quit going nuts. Life gets much better PDQ, & after a couple of weeks you're there. (I wuz the guy that was NEVER going to be able to quit & I did) I'll stop here but PM anytime for any and all supportive razzamatazz I can muster.
  23. Hopefully cheaper than Fremont though
  24. No argument there. If I were looking out I90 way I'd start looking in or around Preston. Maybe it's illusory but Preston's alway seemed like a peaceful little burg. Good luck
