Skiing is pretty safe. In 30 years of skiing I had only 2 accidents, 26 years apart. drC

Muir. Ugh. You must be desperate my friend drC

I so wish I could snag a pair og the NJs at Gart's but they say they're down to one pair of 170 cm and I want 177 (though with a height of 181 cm myself 170 cm would probably work; it would be a big step down from my 188 cm G4s though). drC

The main issue with CLIMBING in tele boots is that tele boots do not come with a rubber sole, while AT boots do. And the duck bill is unwieldy. But then, I've been climbing (and slipping) in plastic alpine race boots, so I'm sure someone is climbing (and slipping) in tele boots somewhere... drC

I was driving. I have to live up to my screen name, you know. And the accident was the other car's fault (Ford Explorer lost control getting onto the freeway and slid right in front of us; Miata---us---went under it). As your friend Lane says, SnowByrd: "STFU and climb, bitch!" Seriously... IMO, being injured for a while isn't going to set you back in your climbing. The progress you made was mostly progress in your head and building the confidence you needed to start leading. That won't go away. I know you'll just climb stronger after your hand heals. RE: skiing, bring one of your ski poles when they make the cast and ask them to make it so that you can hold the pole. I did it after a ski crash and it works wonders. I'll teach you how to use ski poles, they're very useful, so make sure you can hold them even with a cast. drC

Dude you can't tease me like that. Come to Japan for a week. Coooommmmmeee toooooooo Jaaaaapaaaaannnn.... drC PS: Oh, and of course I am still somewhat sick. That won't stop me though.

Duh. I meant 11/13 and 14. drC

Yes, Fujiyama in Japan. Will anybody else be there then? Or do you have some local Japanese climbers friends that would want to do a winter climb with me (there will be hard snow and long runouts)? drC
-
Cool. I'll search. The Japanese warn about the dangers of winter climbing Fuji. Not sure it'd be a great idea to do it by myself. Anybody want to join for the week-end of 9/13-14? Klenke? drC

I am going to Tokyo next week and have a week-end there. I thought I would climb Mt Fuji, to add to my collection of Pacific Rim volcanoes. Plus, I am trying to bag some peaks that klenke hasn't bagged yet, and maybe that one will work . Has any of you climbed it? Experience to share? From what I can read on the Net, it looks like a Mt Adams kind of thing, just walk up. Even easier maybe as there is not much snow (a permanent snow field inside the crater but not much on th sides I've been told, though pics always show a white cap) unless it started to snow already. Though that page says Fuji isn't really climb outside of a June-August period because of "bad climate." Details? I am also looking for alternate climbing things to do there. I was in a car wreck 2 days ago so I am not sure how much I'll be able to use my right hand though. (I am right handed, it wouldn't be fun otherwise.) drC

Nice. I can get one Patagonia for <$100, so the price is good for me. I like the only 12 oz of the Moonstone though. drC
-
Anybody tried it? http://www.patagonia.com/za/PDC?OPTION=PRODUCT&merchant_rn=7385&sku=83971&ws=false Quite lightweight (16.5 oz), waterproof, synthetic insulation. Warm enough for here as an emerency jacket? drC

No point, Dru. I also buy nice looking stuff. But only the one that works. I think we were talking about stuff that does not work. drC

RIP. drC

Form sells often more than function. At least it does to the masses who have no clue what they want and go for higher $ / cuter is better. drC

Ignore marketing then, dude. Use that little thing called a brain that sits between your ears, and make your own decisions. As needed, ask friends to try their gear, for advice, for their ex-girlfriends phone number (and history), etc. drC

I work in technology so I can afford to climb drC

Forget the floss. Go to West Marine and ask for waxed sail repair thread. They can also sell you the right kind of needle. drC

Nice reports. I was all scheduled to going with my friends from the TGR board (of course...) until some dumb ass decided to slide her SUV sideways just feet in front of my Miata in the post-midnights hours of Tuesday (then Wednesday) night, and hmm, let's say that night was very long and I was not in shape to go to the movies. So for all you SUV drivers here: if you drive like an ass in a tight freeway onramp (from 405 S to 520 E for example), remember that physics will catch up with you when you'll switch that driving wheel around to get on the freeway. drC

Dude, you have no idea how much water colors can be dangerous. You could get *stained* . Or worse. drC
-
I think SnowByrd in her last post is actually talking about the *top anchors* not the hangers on the route. And she's also talking about the way she sets top ropes. At least that's what it looks like. drC

I can't believe no one has picked on my spooning or embracing hijack yet. drC
-
Ugh. That is not good. If you copy snowleopard's template letter, change "stip malls" to "strip malls" first. drC

1 700 (kg) * 0.00980665204821735 (1 kg as kN on Earth's surface) = 16.6713085 (kN) drC

Maybe we should reinterpret her "same side or opposing" question as "spooning or embracing?" Just to get new fodder. I know there are strong opinions there too . drC
