  1. Your math skills are fine, but your logic and comprehension obviously don't follow suit. $40,000 x 0.0025 = $100 REI gave 0.25% of their gross sales. Gross sales are equivalent to your salary - you know... that money you get before taxes are taken out, and you buy food, and you pay the rent, etc etc etc. The 7.5% number I quoted - and you used incorrectly - was their giving based upon their profit after taxes, cost of goods sold, expenses, etc etc etc. As far as I can tell, it's a fair comparison. You're right, my logic and comprehension dont follow YOUR suit. But, god-willing, I think I can help you out there. Gross profits, fine, but sales? wow. If I sell 1 widget for $100, but it costs me $99 to produce and sell that widget, that doesnt leave me $10 to donate 10% OF PROFITS to charity. I only have a dollar in my pocket (and thats assuming no taxes). How am I gonna donate $10 to charity for that widget? Exerpted from Business for Dummies: Gross Sales - Costs (overhead, employee pay, business losses, etc) = Gross Profits Now, Gross profits - taxes on profits = Net profit Gross Profit for a business is analagous to gross salary for you or me. Net profit is like Net (takehome) Pay. You get back to me when you are ready for your next lesson: "How to make a logical and persuasive argument."
  2. Shit, are .11a's considered moderates? Or is that just at Index? ... Knocked down yet another peg, not many left
  3. Are you sure this wasn't some Will Ferrel bit? It sure sounded like him from his slow death scene in Austin Powers. This gets funnier every time I watch it. greatest lines: justice boy:"i HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITIoooooON." "HERE's YOUR FUCKING ABUSE OF POWER. HERE'S YOUR PATRIOT ACT." omg too damn funny. cop: "Stop fighting us. Comply." JB: "I'm not fighting you. I said. I. WOULD. LEAvvvvvE." cop: stand up. stand up. <zap> stand up. <zzap> stand up... repeat the exchange... I think the cops biggest mistake was setting their tazer to "bitchy crybaby". These college students feel like they need some injustice to rail against. Its Protest Envy; like they have to measure up to their counter parts from the 50s and 60s. And this is the hillarious result. Kent State = natl Gaurdsmen kill angry protesters; country goes into uproar over the images of state abuse. UCLA tazering = Kid gets zapped for being a bitch; indignant students get badge numbers and post crappy footage on UTUBE. This kid was blatantly trying to stir up a riot. The cops played right into this little bitch's hands by allowing him to carry on for so long. I think from now on you'll see these cops carrying duct tape.
  4. Knelson, I'm not a big fan of their "Co-op" structure, but I also believe in fair criticism. Your math skills leave a bit to be desired, or is it your logic skills? .075 x $40,000 = $3,000, not $100 as you suggest by your analogy.
  5. Yah, I've never bought into the body size thing to much. Sure, there are a handfull of routes that may be anatomy specific, like thin crack, but usually body size is used as an excuse for why you fail on something when it really is lack of skill or determination.
  6. What reality are those crazy germans living in?
  7. dump a bucket of chalk in yer tighty whities
  8. hey Arc check your PMs
  9. I am going to paint a twister board on the hood of my car. The spinner will go on the grill. This is a call to all nubile, female climbers that look good in prana pants to come spin and twist with me on the dream machine ...
  10. Facing up to the truth can be a difficult process... I wish it wasnt so alarming but we really do need to WAKE THE FUCK UP!!!
  11. Maybe you should be more careful about who you vote for... You can say the government is responsible for our problems--and they sure as heck are. But it is our duty as citizens to watch them closely and not roll over when the start to abuse their power. The blame ultimately rests on the lazy American public. We are insulated and feel secure in our SUVs, Rediculously large suburban dwellings, 401 Ks, Surround sound home entertainment theatres, seemingly endless supply of energy and material resources, etc. Well honey, the good times are coming to an end sooner than you may think. The world's oil production is peaking, if it hasnt already. No amount of drilling is going to catch up with the ever increasing demand. IT will become harder to justify the cost of gas guzzlers, the suburbs are going to become obsolete. A concrete and asphault wasteland. People will retreat to the cities. People will again begin to watch their wallets more closely, including just what the heck is the government spending their money on... We will unplug, pull our heads out of the sand, and realize we are living in a matrix of sorts. It will be very disorienting and confusing at first. There will be lots of anarchy and riots occuring in our own country. And if we arent careful, there will be Neo-Cons in control of our military, treasury, judiciary, and legislature. They will step up and tell us that if we keep them in power, they will "protect" us from all these scary things (which they helped shape in the first place). Before you know it, the 4th Reich will take power in America. The reality is that this may have already occurred, but the worst is yet to come. But there is hope... People are waking up. They are thinking more globally. They are seeing thru the smoke, mirrors, and distractions. Evil can only hide its face for so long before the stench gives it away... Keep up the consciousness. Our government needs a SEVERE reform or overhaul. I am not proposing open revolution... Revolutions are bloody and painful. There is power in numbers and especially unity. There are more of us (pawns, middle class, minor lords, and the oppressed) than there are of them (the ultra wealthy and powerful). Its not a race thing. Its a class thing. Simple as that. These people dont care about religion. They simply use it as a control tool. You really think Bush says a prayer before he signs orders to drop bombs, rape the environment, steal more money from the people and give it to his rich friends, etc. ""Dear Gawd. Please bless amurika as it tries to punish the evil-doers. Daddy told me that being poor is a sin. Please send a hurricane to wipe them from the earth. I will do my best to prevent people from trying to save these wretched sinners. Oh, thats the end of my prayyer. My little tallywacker is beginning to burn again. You must excuse me for a bathroom break. Your faithful master, Emperor Bush II
  12. What a thread! Arch, I love how clearly you speak. The poetry like "miniver Cheevy" proves how valuble both history and art can be and further illustrates that to downplay their importance in our present "edukation" system is folly. I often swing between the "glory" of revolution and the "soberness" of slow reform. It seems to me that to build anything lasting in this life requires constant devotion. A "quick" revolution is not a better answer usually. Because what takes place after the revolution? A power grab. Therefore, I would agree that the american "revolution" was more disobedience and dissent than full-on revolution. After all, what revolution involves diplomacy? From my understanding of history, the battles of the revolution were more on par with skirmishes. How else did General Washington sit on his ass for an entire winter in Valley Forge? Most of the battles took place with economic and political maneuverings. The Brits simply gave up on trying to control the American colonies. The British crown was not overthrown, it was simply ignored.
  13. Actually, GW's grandaddy had business dealings with hitler...
  14. PRodeals from industry friends... Priceless!
  15. TNF SALE: I'll be telling the grandkids about that one. ""And there I was little JOhnny... Camalots and Friends were swiped off the racks like the flesh falling off the bone at a pig roast. Dirtbags from all walks of climbing had glimmers of hope in their eye. Alpinists could finally buy that fancy pair of approach shoe. Tradsters could afford that #6 Camalot to protect the offwidth pitches up in the enchanments. Sporties bought their super-thin, sticky, hooker slippers and prana attire... For all was 75% off retail!!! And me? I bought my first mountaineering boot for $56.25. And now I'm giving them to you... That reminds me, your father was concieved while I was wearing these boots. we'd just returned to the car from another epic trip. I was horny as a goat. And your grandmother was still wearing her harness as I bent her over the hood... Thank the stars for droppable leg-loops...""
  16. MY 2 cents: I used to get really pissed at teachers that relied on powerpoint presentations. Especially the wordy ones. ITs one thing to use powerpoint to present graphs and stuff... Be careful. I found it impossible to stay engaged when powerpoint replaced the art of the lecture... You realize there is no point in coming to class at all, when the teacher simply posts the lecture contents on the class webpage. Its like a teacher reading straight from the textbook. I feel incredibly ripped-off by the quality of education delivered by my IT-dependant professors from college. $28,000 to have a text-book read to me by a human, multiple-choice tests that really didnt test my mastery of the basic concepts but merely if I could recall trivia facts that you could simply look up, professors that would cancel rougly 10% of the classes that I paid for, language teachers that encouraged me to write run-oin sententces (its my "voice"), etc. Gary, please bring back some respect to the teaching profession!!! Don't forget how important it is to seduce a young co-ed at least once per quarter! Sounds like you will have you pick of the litter with those hot, deoderant-free CS babes! I LIKE THE FOOD IDEA. COOL. OWN THAT CLASSROOM, BE A HARDASS. tHEY WILL CURSE YOU NOW, BUT APPRECIATE AND RESPECT YOU FOR IT LATER IN LIFE WHEN THEY TURN THEIR SHIT IN ON TIME!!!

  18. insurance is a scam...
  19. True, I forgot to factor in the asshole quotient. As far as people who drive w/o insurance: I could argue that driving without insurance, while risky and irresponsible, can lead one to actually be a safer driver, thus preventing accidents from occurring in the first place. Reasoning: How many times have you heard this yuppie attitude- “Oh yeah, this thing is insured out the wazoo. IF I wreck it, they’ll just buy me a brand new one! SO I don’t give a fawk if I wreck it!!!!“ or another favorite, “Haha! The insurance company cut me a check for $20,000. Little did they know that the thing needed $5,000 to repair the transmission… Now I got me a brand new transmission and a better and newer car because I “totaled” the car by rear-ending a telephone pole.” These people drive up your rates much faster than those that drive without insurance. I once got T-boned by an inattentive, speeding woman because I was poking 5-8 feet out into a rural intersection (you couldn’t see around the corner where the stop sign was). She had to have been doing 50-65 MPH in a 30 zone. Although she could have moved the wheel slightly left, and had about 2-3 seconds to do so (the time at which I spotted her car), she plowed right into me. She was on her cellphone. Damage to my vehicle: totaled. Entire front end displaced 3 inches from the radiator to infront of the engine. Vehicle value $1500. I did not have collision. Damage to me: Psychological. I was on my way to the unemployment office. !!! Damage to her vehicle: a broken headlight and small dent between the light and the bumber on the passenger side. She later drove off. Damage to her: She got out of the car, never said a word to me despite asking her several times if she was ok, and then got back in her car to call police. When the police arrived, she began to hold her neck. I rolled my eyes. The paramedics arrived, checked her out, cleared her, and later one EMT pulled me aside and said, “We see people pull this BS all the time…” Result: the cop hit me with a ticket for not making sure it was safe to proceed in the intersection. This despite the 80 foot skid mark (which would have been longer had it not been interrupted by my vehicle) Note she was driving a compact car, so therefore the momentum of the vehicle was less than a larger sedan…. IT was obvious she was at least partially, and in my mind, about 75 percent at fault. But the law says I’m to blame. Fine. One year later, when I go to renew my insurance policy, I find they jacked up the rate 180%. I inquire as to why. Apparently, they settled with her out of court for $1500 in vehicle damage (despite it being 500 or less including body damage) And a staggering $3,500 in personal injury!!! MY insurance company never informed me of this. I could have gotten witnesses who saw the accident back up my story, the EMT that checked her out, etc. I seriously doubt she sustained any injuries. She had on her seatbealt and most of the energy was absorbed by my car. I received no injuries despite a sideways impact. I am still amazed at the fact that the insurance company preferred to settle without checking the veracity of her claims. Why was I, or the officer or EMTs never contacted about her claim? IT smells if you ask me. Wasting my insurance money and other policy holders…. So let me ask you, who is really causing you higher interest rates: The careful, uninsured driver, or the reckless and opportunistic insured driver and the lazy attitude of the insurance companies??? She comitted subsidized law-breaking with her fradulent claim. The insurance company also did by paying her off without asking questions. They dont care because they get away with passing the claim off to policy holders.
  20. What about driving tired??? I think its even a little more dangerous than DUI. I agree though. A vehicle is a dangerous weapon. IF you are in a state that prevents you from controlling that weapon, you should exercise judgement and consideration towards your fellow man and refrain from driving at that time. I'm not so sure if making harsher laws help very much though. I think a better way is to inform people what the results of their actions will be on others (ie friend of husbads I'm not sure if throwing someone in jail helps. Rather, what about seizing driving priveledges until a judge can determine that they understand the impact of DUIing or Driving while exhausted (DWE).
  21. wow. That picture would have been all the more literal if the fish on the end of the hook was a dead body and former member of the working class.
  22. Economic Left/Right: -6.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.67 Word Whitbey! I would have voted for McCain over Bush, Gore, or any other of the spineless wimps or ignorant blowhards (Dems and Rep) that are paraded infront of us as potential leaders of our nation. McCain. A republican with a conscience. One of few. I certainly would have voted for Howard Dean (mr faux paus) over Kerry (mr pussy). Dean was very Trumanesque. If Dean were pres he would have taken responsibility for the KAtrina aftermath and saved lives rather than vacationing, giving photo-ops, and trying to say the "right" things rather than leading by example. I used to think I was a democrat but I have since realised that they talk about being for certain things but in reality are just as bad as most republicans and could be worse in some respects. Their ineffectiveness to lead is just one example. Bush leads thru fear, misinformation, secrecy, and hate. Can we have a leader that leads thru truth, love, openness, and optimism? Someone that offers a better vision of america and has a thought out, detailed plan on how to achieve it. Someone that knows the value of sacrifice and is not afraid to ask for it? Where is JFK when you need him?
  23. How bout: East of Eden - Steinbeck. I've never read a novel that nails down human nature and motivations so well and at the same time providing commentary of it...
  24. fell outta my chair in that one
  25. yes. Bongs and PBRs are critical on ascents of this magnitude... I only wish I brought the dynamite and 30 aught to ward off the PBR poachers and bong roachers... My "rack" never had a chance.
