The other trend is for a constant influx of new, expensive medications. Why can't the latest and greatest from 2-3 years ago be used to treat patients with less insurance? In many cases we're talking about marginal differences in efficacy, but a huge increase in cost. This is a completely pragmatic approach. In essence, it is the rationing of available healthcare and make total sense.

Not to get too far off track here, but the Patriot Act has numerous far-reaching implications. For example, the co I work for is having to do an amazing amount of expensive work providing the right environments for their software in other countries b/c no country will allow any of their stuff to be hosted here in US. Why not? B/c our gov't can look at or seize any files they want whenever they want. And so, no one will trust us with their files--stuff that really has nothing to do with us anyway. It sure doesn't fit my idea of a "gov't by the people for the people".

Funny enough, this topic was being discussed on the radio this morning. Specifically, they were talking about fish oil supplements on the market and how different supplements were created using different methods. The speaker talked about the hydrogenating process of many of the companies. It sure came as news to me.

Just to add to that....they aren't (wouldn't be) the sole custodian of your most sensitive personal info. A lot of folks have access to stuff folks think is private. Here's a clue: it ain't.

I got to spend three days working on cleaning streetsmut out of a guy I was with who laid his bike down while wearing shorts. By the third day of hearing him scream, I told him I didn't fucking care how much he hated hospitals, he was going. Big mess after dumping a bike. But then, that guy would have been cleaned up by his medical crew. Either way, shitty.
