It does seem like something that is worth working with one of your local climber advocacy groups to ensure fair treatment (or at least consistent treatment when compared to other recreational interest groups such as hunters, 'bilers, hikers, etc). The Washington Climbers Coalition, the Access Fund, and others aren't just about rock climbing. At very least it is worth making sure your legislator knows your opinion during their knee-jerk sesh.
