  1. I'm selling a Garmin Enduro 2 GPS watch.   It is functionally in great condition, works perfectly. This the Garmin watch that is designed around battery life.  If you hate charging a watch, but still want GPS functionality....and you don't like to pay full price for crap, then this is the watch for you.  It also has solar charging.   I got so sick of charging the Apple Watch I had every day that I paid a lot of money for this one brand new, and I quickly became a believer.  Only one better than this is the new Enduro 3 that just came out.

I won't go into all the features this watch has, because you can read about it here:

    https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/854515

I was charging this one like once a month normally.   Maybe twice if I did some longer activities, hikes, etc where I was doing GPS tracking.  I never had this watch ever come close to dying on me during an activity. Check the specs in the link above.

The bezel on this Enduro 2 has some cosmetic scratches.  The actual watch face has none.  This occurred on one of the scrambles I did with the watch, but it doesn't impact functionality at all.  If anything it makes the watch look cooler, but I'll leave that for you to decide.

I used the nylon strap for a band, so that part is used.  It does have the rubber wrist bands in the box, it is totally unused.  You can also buy a nylon band if you want a fresh one.

Comes in the original box and with a charging cable.

$300 OBO.  Check around, good price.

  2. Ha for me I ended up with a back issue related to my collarbone smash that also brought never ending migraines. Super fun. So I only did a few modest hikes and scrambles.  But any day in the alpine is a good one, and grateful to have gotten out when I did. This past weekend spent a night out with Kiba next to the highest pond up here: IMG_6145.jpeg.64e2adfda33dd941a16b9e4b54a1cda6.jpeg

popular place but managed to avoid most of the people. Sure was smoky. Ran into a guy who turned around at the Hannigan trailhead as people coming out reported a brush fire past the pass back there.

I am considering a trip up Mt. Mystery and for some reason I have become intrigued with solo glacier travel which is admittedly, stupid :)  I do however, put in the time researching.  Mystery glacier is said to be stagnant, meaning it does not build up enough new ice to force it to flow (slowly) downhill, and therefor one might conclude that it does not form crevasses.   I went with that assumption this past spring on the Upper Paradise glacier and all went well (I also, discussed the trip with a park ranger)  But I have found evidence from a trip report made in 2023 that clearly shows crevasses on the Mystery Glacier and I want to make anyone reading this trip report aware of that.  It's a long post about a 3 week trip so a search of the word "mystery" on the page should get you there fast.  I could believe that in early season after a good snow year that those slots would be filled up.  Here's a link to that 2023 trip report: https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7984783

That’s is quite a TR.  thanks for sharing that.

"Artz, CEO since 2019, had already warned that more pain was likely in 2024. “We have borrowed from our savings, but we cannot do that forever,” he wrote in a letter to stakeholders published a week before the meeting. He blamed the company’s wages—which are higher than average for retail—and REI’s decision to continue paying a dividend to members for the steep losses. "

Or maybe that is the reason for any success they have had? When they had good employees who provided good service and the fact that you'll get a dividend for full priced items you buy is the whole reason you'd shop there at all?

It definitely couldn't be the leadership that steered the company with a unique
"coop" business model in an unsustainable direction.  No, that couldn't be it.

  5. The old trailhead has been gated and the section above it logged, but IMO there is still plenty of great trail there.   Would love to see a new section of trail put in that comes up north from the Dosewallips or down south from the Duckabush that avoids all the logging and give access to that trail without having to deal with the timber companies. Mt Jupiter summit is special place, worth all of it for the last 1/4 mile up to the summit.   It just that first little bit that has been logged recently and messes up the access.
