Info on a route/area. The term beta has its roots in video footage of a climbing route. The video was on betamax... or at least the legend goes.

Gregory is pretty notorious for having long straps. Trim them down. The reason they are so long is because they have only one length available when putting the packs together. Take a look at the side straps, the hood straps, and the sleeping pad straps. They'll all be the same length.

That's but a sampling from that dude. People have called him on it, but they still keep showing up. Weak

Look at the Grivel Air Tech Light Cramp-o-matic. I think that will fit over a duck bill no problem. Grivel does also make a wide fitting g-10 that uses straps.

The Half Dome is designed to do the same thing. They get away with a lighter shell because of the polystyrine (sp?) foam insert. This will help absorb the impact of hits that crack through the shell. Another note: buying and returning stuff to REI isn't screwing them. If you want to screw them, support local shops. REI didn't run Base Camp out of business, climbers who shopped at REI did. I previously worked at Backpackers Supply in Tacoma. When REI moved in, we didn't sell as many Nalgenes and Freeze dried food, but got more exposure for our shop when REI was sold out of items, or didn't carry them. REI's customers aren't always the same customers that frequent shops like Feathered Friends, Base Camp (RIP), or Oregon Mountain Community. If you want great stores to stick around, support them.

The Mountain Shop in PDX donates money from it's tele tuesday event. Come up and support the friends of the NWAC!

Karhu Mountain is a great ski for this. Has full edges, waxless base and will hold down a silvretta/dynafit binding with no problem. If you want to wait until next year, Karhu has another ski coming out called the Guide. Sickness...

Nice Chad! Were you soloing the route? You must have been hungry for the summit after being stonewalled the previous day. I'll have to talk to you about taking pictures at night.
-
Why don't you take it to a gear repair shop and have them stitch on some attatchments. You can get away with something that will remain lightweight, I'm sure. I don't have a nozone, but this is how I would go about it. Good Luck!

I was up yesterday (Wednesday). The weather sucked for us supposedly having a high pressure system hanging out. Low level clouds that really didn't let up. Wind. Freezing Rain. Today is supposed to be better, weather wise. Things on the snow front are fairly packed, not terribly icy thought (We were up to around 9500 feet or so). The turns were pretty good still, although I worry about the freezing rain ontop of the snow. Couloir will have to fill us in on that. When in doubt, go ski it yourself. Even if the conditions aren't great, at least you'll be getting a workout and get to practice your survival skiing.

I'll be up there tomorrow, and be sure to post conditions as soon as I can. It definitely looks good up there!

I have a friend that is searching for recommendations to stay up in Bellingham. Good hotels, rentals, etc. Also recommendations on things to see and do while in town (or surrounding areas) such as typical tourist things as well as outdoor activities (xc skiing). Thanks in advance! Alan (on behalf of Rodney)

Climb Axe still has them. as of two days ago

It'd be awesome if you could make it Roger. The more the marrier, right?

Looks like we might have some good high pressure leading in for the coming week. Anyone want to go climbing? I'm wanting to get more experience, so I'm not looking for an epic. Southside of hood, or other moderate routes in good condition. I'm available either Wednesday or Thursday.

Meadows is selling $10 lift tickets for night skiing on Feb 1st. Anyone want to go up there? I need a ride. Maybe go up early, skin up the alpine trail, ski down, drive to meadows and ski until 9pm. Any takers?

Keep in mind that a Warranty doesn't always mean a replacement. They will sometimes opt to just repair the item depending on what is going on. Just because you warrantied a broken snowshoe doesn't mean you're getting a new pair. This makes it hard, even when it is cut and dry warranty, for a retailer to replace the item out of their stock.
-
The store doesn't extend the 1 year warranty, the manufacturer does. All but REI will send it to the company first in most cases. The amount of time that it takes is up to the manufactuer. Most warranties I will send off the day, or maybe the day after, you brought it in. Hope this helps

I never use this thing. It has been out about three times and only has some dirt and chalk on it. It's in great shape. Also features the 45 degree angle seam for no dead spots. Asking 75, OBO. Will consider trade for cams or Ice Tools.

Are you planning on summiting? I'm free either way

Additional Note. The Sirrocco is a narrower dimension pack than the Contour (The mens/unisex counterpart.) Might be better for climbing that way! I agree with John in that longer/wider straps are probably available.

Join The Mountain Shop, Friends of the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center, Wy'east Nordic and Industry Reps in celebrating tele skiing! We will be up at Mount Hood Ski Bowl on February 7th and March 7th in the evening from 5pm-9pm. The festivities include demos, clinics and races. The fee for the demo is $10. We will have skis from Black Diamond, Karhu, G3, Atomic, K2 and Voile available to test. Store staff and product representatives will be available to answer any questions and offer recommendations. The clinics, taught by the excellent instructors at Wy'East Nordic, will start around 7pm. Depending on demand we will have different skill levels from first timers to salty dogs. Cost for the clinics will run $20. If you would like to demo gear in addition to the clinics, the price is $25. Our race series continues with the Freeskiing contest on February 7th and the Slalom on March 7th (conditions permiting). The races will be starting at 7pm, and cost $15 per event. The uphill/downhill race took place January 10th, and was an exciting event with a handfull of participants braving rain and a power outage to climb up to the upper bowl and race back to the bar. Don't miss the rest of the events. Prizes will be awarded for First, Second, and Third in both Men's and Women's division. The Tele Tuesday events benefit the Friends of the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center. All demo and clinic fees will be donated to efforts to keep the NWAC a valuable resource for Oregon and Washington skiers and climbers. We will also have a party with raffle prizes after the event! If you have any questions, please call the Mountain Shop at 503-288-6768. You can also direct any general questions toward this thread. We'll see you up there! Alan The Mountain Shop

Any one have a rage tool laying around? I've aquired a single tool, but need to pair it up with another. Thanks!
