As reported by CC.com News: A delusional, naked man covered in feathers was arrested in his home last night. The man, identified as Greg_W from Seattle, was apparently engaging in a cult sex ritual. The man had covered himself in mayonnaise and feathers from a Cornish Game Hen as part of the ritual. When police entered the man's home, he was sucking on the toes of a naked dwarf. Upon seeing police enter, the man threw a pair of galoshes at the door, injuring one officer. Biohazard teams were sent in to clean up a mysterious mixture of liquid on the floor. Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, claim that the liquid was "a mixture of semen, pig feces, and another substance, yet to be determined." The ritual, which included sucking on the dwarfs toes, as well as licking the dwarf's rectum, is known in underground sex circles as "dwarf tossing." There has been no word on the condition of the dwarf. The officer injured at the scene was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital that evening. Greg_W is being held without bail at central lockup, pending a psychiatric evaluation.

Any word on whether the Mexican Air Force flies really low to the ground? Do they hang fuzzy dice from the canopy? Do they have spoke wheels for their landing gear?

BOSTON -- An X-Ray, made of the stomach of a 62-year-old man who came to the emergency room of Cholet General Hospital in western France in 2002. He had a history of major psychiatric illness, was suffering from stomach pain, and could not eat or move his bowels. Doctors discovered an enormous opaque mass in his stomach that turned out to weigh 12 pounds. The patient had swallowed around 350 coins, along with assorted necklaces and needles. 600 Pound Woman Dies After Rescue Friday August 13, 2004 12:04pm A dramatic rescue ended tragically Wednesday in Stuart, Florida – a rescue so difficult firefighters say they had never seen anything like it. It happened late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning at the home of a 600-pound woman who was having trouble breathing. Rescuers went in not knowing how difficult it would be to get her out. 40-year-old Gail Grinds was literally stuck to her couch and had to be removed surgically at the hospital. Authorities estimate she had been on the couch anywhere from 2 to 5 years. Martin County Fire and Rescue crews faced what seemed to be an impossible mission. Everyone going inside had to wear protective gear. The stench was so powerful they had to blast in fresh air. They tried to cut out the front door, but at 4-and-a-half feet wide – it didn't work. They also had to cut plywood since a normal stretcher wouldn't do. An ambulance was too small - so they brought in a trailer to get her out. While rescue crews came up with a back-door rescue plan, detectives secured what had become a crime scene - questioning family members about how conditions got that bad. Using planks, rescuers loaded the woman on to the trailer, still attached to the couch. Removing her would have been too painful - since her body was grafted to the fabric. After years of staying put - her skin had literally become one with the sofa - needing to be surgically removed. Detectives are investigating whether it was a case of neglect, or simply a very sad story. Grinds was taken to the Martin Memorial hospital where doctors removed her from the couch, but she died in spite of all the attempts to save her life. http://www.katv.com/news/stories/0804/165838.html Let the one liners begin... She gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "I was stuck to the couch"

I just slaughtered a bunch of flies...mashed those little fuckers good, too. The carnage looked something like the picture below, only with lots of dead fly guts and blood smeared all over. I really hate these fucking things. Die you annoying little bastards!

I was responding to the bolded sections in the quote. The way I read the above was that you thought the terror alert was politically motivated and that information dated three years was not valuable. If I misunderstood, I apologize. Releasing the guy's name may or may not have made a difference - it would have been pretty obvious where the information came from when the details of the targets were announced (which I believe they should be).

The Embassy Bombings "As early as December 1993, a team of al Qaeda operatives had begun casing targets in Nairobi for future attacks. It was led by Ali Mohamed, a former Egyptian army officer who had moved to the United States in the mid-1980s, enlisted in the U.S.Army, and became an instructor at Fort Bragg. He had provided guidance and training to extremists at the Farouq mosque in Brooklyn, including some who were subsequently convicted in the February 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. The casing team also included a computer expert whose write-ups were reviewed by al Qaeda leaders." http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Report_Ch2.pdf Page 68 "KSM claims that the earlier bombing of the World Trade Center taught him that bombs and explosives could be problematic, and that he needed to graduate to a more novel form of attack. He maintains that he and Yousef began thinking about using aircraft as weapons while working on the Manila air/Bojinka plot, and speculated about striking the World Trade Center and CIA headquarters as early as 1995." http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Report_Ch5.pdf Page 153 "KSM acknowledges formally joining al Qaeda, in late 1998 or 1999, and states that soon afterward, Bin Ladin also made the decision to support his proposal to attack the United States using commercial airplanes as weapons." http://www.9-11commission.gov/report/911Report_Ch5.pdf Page 154 In regard to the recent terror alert: the information had been updated as recently as January of this year. Read Tom Ridge's piece in today's Wall Street Journal to hear why he raised the alert: A Nation on Alert By TOM RIDGE August 9, 2004; Page A12 In the war on terror, information can be our best weapon. Most of the time the threat intelligence we glean -- while helpful -- is frustratingly general and gray. Last week that was not the case. The information we received was uniquely specific. In spite of that, some have questioned the relevance of the information and the motivation behind sharing it. There is no question about all the 40-page casing files found on the laptop computer of an al Qaeda operative. There is no question about the detailed surveillance carried out on the New York Stock Exchange, Prudential Financial, Citigroup, the IMF and the World Bank. There is no question about how the discovery of this information fit together with other intelligence streams to form an undeniable picture of a potential terrorist attack. Information on the types of uniforms worn by guards, potential escape routes, places where employees hang out -- detail after detail down to the incline that exists on one of the underground parking garages -- is shockingly black and white. And there was no question on the part of the people who received this information on what had to be done. Those directly involved acted upon this intelligence in a swift and decisive manner. State and local officials and private sector leadership ramped up security procedures, employees showed up to work, and citizens continued to go about their daily lives with the same vigilance and fortitude exhibited since the attacks of 9/11. Some have also questioned the motivation and timing of the recent terror alert. In an election year, there will be those who want to view the release of this information through a political prism. Let me state what should go without stating: There is no place for politics in homeland security. We cannot allow the current political environment to distract government or private-sector leaders from doing what needs to be done to protect public safety. As we reported in April, gathered intelligence suggests that al Qaeda is planning a large-scale attack on American soil to disrupt our democratic process. Last Friday morning, we first learned of detailed information about specific locations scouted by al Qaeda for possible attack. These casing operations occurred in 2000 and 2001 and were recently updated in January of this year. But regardless of when al Qaeda did the groundwork, upon seeing the shocking new detail of their plans we were compelled to share this information immediately. The 9/11 Commission outlined in great depth how al Qaeda operates. In the commission's own words this is "an enemy that is sophisticated, patient, disciplined, and lethal." And in their report, they detailed the long casing operations this organization undertakes to carry out its attacks. Additionally, the commission found that the "casing" for the Nairobi embassy bombing in 1998 began in 1993 and that the planning for the horrific attacks of 9/11 began to take shape as early as 1996. Imagine if we had uncovered schematics for flying commercial airliners into the World Trade Towers in early 2001. Would we have dismissed the information because it was from 1996? No. We would have given anything to have known what the terrorists were planning -- given anything to have been able to warn Americans -- given anything to have had a chance to stop the terrorists from succeeding. As the 9/11 Commission noted -- "The biggest impediment to all-source analysis -- to a greater likelihood of connecting the dots -- is the human or systemic resistance to sharing information." It is a tough balance we strike at the Department of Homeland Security between sharing information that makes us safer and sharing information that tips our hand to terrorists. But if we have information that could potentially save lives, we will share it with the American people every single time. In the end, let's not lose sight of the facts. The facts in this case are that we uncovered detailed surveillance reports from al Qaeda pointing to an operation with the potential to kill many civilians. These reports, coupled with other separate threat information, demanded that action be taken. And, it was. We put out the facts. Government, law enforcement, companies and citizens took the appropriate precautions, put protections in place and have continued on. And let there be no question that we too will continue to do what we need to as a government and as a nation to defeat terrorism and secure the country and freedoms that we all cherish. Mr. Ridge is secretary of homeland security. http://online.wsj.com/article/0,,SB109200480591385993,00.html?mod=opinion

Unusual otter attack kills dog A teenage girl watches as the animal grabs her pet, pulls him under the water and snaps at the foot of a would-be rescuer. By TAMARA LUSH © St. Petersburg Times, published May 4, 2001 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW PORT RICHEY -- Heather Davis thought the dark brown otter was just playing with her dog Mike. Heather Davis hugs her dog, Mike, the American Eskimo, in a family photograph. Mike was killed Tuesday in a backyard lake when he was attacked by an otter, which is a protected species in Florida. Such attacks are considered rare. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then the 4-foot-long otter seized Mike's snout with its teeth and started to drag the fluffy, white dog into the lake. Heather screamed for help. As the otter pulled the dog under, a family friend grabbed a pole, jumped into a small boat and tried to rescue Mike. But the dog already was limp and floating away. "The otter went under water," said Rick Wolf, 19. "Then it jumped on the back of the boat and started attacking my foot." Heather, 13, and her sister Stephanie stood in the back yard, hysterical. "The otter had his whole mouth around (Wolf's) shoe," said Heather. Wolf, whose shoe was not penetrated by the otter's teeth, kicked and jabbed it with the stick. The otter swam over to Mike, grabbed the dog and glided off. Wolf, the boyfriend of Heather's 17-year-old sister, was not injured. The body of the dog, an American Eskimo, was found on the shore of the lake on Wednesday, a day after the attack. Pasco Animal Control has placed a trap in the Davis' back yard on Vienna Lane, which borders a small lake in the Regency Park subdivision. "Otters usually are not aggressive, they're usually a very shy animal," said Denise Hilton, Pasco Animal Control manager. The otter could be a mother trying to protect her litter, or it could be rabid, she said. Either way, "I'm sure it was very traumatic for them to have their dog killed by this critter," Hilton said. Otters are protected animals in Florida, but they can be killed if they destroy property, authorities said. Attacks are highly unusual. However, there have been a few incidents involving river otters, which are aquatic members of the weasel family. In 1999 in Melbourne, an otter bit a man on his shin. Earlier this year in New Bedford, Mass., a police officer was bitten by a rabid otter. In Florida, otters are usually found near fresh water. They eat mostly fish, but have been known to eat birds, snakes and insects. The animals, which can look a lot like giant wet cats when they emerge from the water, are usually 3 to 4 feet long, and can weigh up to 25 pounds. Otters have webbed toes, short legs and a small, flat head. The violent attack left local and state officials puzzled. "This is very bizarre behavior for an otter," said Jeff McGrady, a wildlife biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. "It sort of just left us scratching our heads." Heather's father, John Davis, said the family got the dog, Mike, as a puppy, five years ago. He was very fond of Heather, and slept on her bed at night. When she was a little girl, Heather used to dress the dog in hats and other funny clothes, he said. "Mike was very gentle, not aggressive at all," said John Davis. Davis said his neighbor had seen an otter in the lake several weeks ago. "If they had said an alligator was in the lake, I might have been concerned," he said. "I never thought anything about an otter." River otters Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission HABITAT: In Florida, usually found near fresh water. They live in burrows on water banks, often under the roots of trees. DIET: They normally feed on animals such as crawfish and fish. SIZE: Usually 3 to 4 feet long, weighing up to 25 pounds. Thread drift...what's that? Would it make you feel any better if I created a new thread, instead of refocusing the debate in this thread on more relevant issues? My witty response would not have been necessary were it not for your wholesale dismissal of my post.

No, this is not some made up organization from a South Park episode. An excerpt: Founded in 1969, the National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance is a non-profit human rights organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for fat people. NAAFA works to eliminate discrimination based on body size and provide fat people with the tools for self-empowerment through public education, advocacy, and member support. Formed in 1989 in a concerted effort to get Hallmark to remove offensive products from their line, our success demonstrates the effectiveness of a coordinated voice directed at a single target. Since that first campaign the FATF has continued to fight size discrimination. Recent projects have included: Working with the Federal Trade Commission to help stop diet fraud Assisting in a successful campaign to add height and weight to the list of characteristics protected against discrimination in San Francisco Speaking out against a fat toddler being removed from her home Helping an LAPD Officer who faced career-ending disciplinary action over reporting an offensive "No Fat Cops!" poster in a captain's office Protesting LIFE Act H.R. 3177, which madated the development and demonstration of intervention strategies for the "overweight and obese" for use at worksites and in community settings. He claims he is going to do something to strenghten the war on terror, yet he doesn't give specifics. He makes pie in the sky predictions about an energy independent United States - which is simply impractical in the short run. He doesn't give a whole lot of specifics about how he's going to accomplish this. Tax credits for more efficient vehicles aren't going to do it. He is simply wrong when it comes to the economy. His rhetoric about outsourcing, protectionist policies, and promoting uncompetitive industries is dangerous. He will distort the competitive process for the gain of a few, at the expense of the rest of us. He will not be a fiscally responsible president. His health care plan will push us right down the slippery slope to socialized programs in the U.S. His plan will cost hundreds of billions of dollars, at the minimum. He will not be able to finance all of his programs by simply, "taxing the rich." He will do more to distort competitive processes and incentives more than he could ever hope to gain with his socialism. He claims he'll improve the security of the country. His plan? Reshuffle some beauracracy in Washington. How is he going to make us safer? He'll somehow "restore respect" to America? I wasn't aware we had lost respect. We are getting cooperation from all of our allies in the war on terror. The fact that France and Germany made a big stink about us going to Iraq has not changed the developed world's interest in preventing terrorism. John Kerry wants people to "judge his record." What record? I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it? I voted for the war in Iraq, but now I'm against it? I am a free trader...Oh wait, no I'm not. Big business is evil....Oh wait, no it isn't, I have the support of 200+ business leaders? I really hope people think about what this guy is going to do for America. If you really think he will get the job done, you should vote for him. I think he is selling America a load of snake oil. A note: I am not a Republican. I have almost the same level of disdain for George W Bush, though not quite as much. I just really hate politicians in general.

I agree with you. I don't want to subsidize anyone. I'm glad to see both sides of the aisle agreeing on something, albeit for different reasons.
-
Bill Clinton may have been right for the wrong reason. Taxpayers as a whole should not be subsidizing timber any more than they should be subsidizing your recreation. If you insist on having a government entity manage lands, you should be prepared to have it managed for everyone - including people who want to harvest timber. There are those who believe that logging should be permitted on public lands. I am not in favor of subsidizing any industry, lumber included. However, I do recognize that my beliefs are not shared by all.

Legend Grows Around 1,000-Pound Ga. Hog POSTED: 6:23 pm EDT July 28, 2004 UPDATED: 1:02 pm EDT July 29, 2004 ALAPAHA, Ga. -- Around these parts, they are calling it Hogzilla: a 12-foot-long wild hog recently killed on a plantation and now quickly becoming a part of local legend. The plantation's owner claims the hog weighed 1,000 pounds and had 9-inch tusks. But few people have actually seen the hog — the only proof being a photo that shows the dead beast hanging from a rope. Whether the hog ever actually existed or is some sort of Faulknerian myth, it has definitely been the topic of conversation in small towns across southern Georgia. "People just back up and ask 'Is it real?' They can't believe that there's a hog that big in the woods," said Drew White, who has a copy of the photo on display at an auto parts store in Tifton, about 17 miles away. Chris Griffin said he killed the beast last month at the River Oak Plantation, where he is a hunting guide, and has been showing off the picture around this small farming community ever since. The hog is nearly twice as long as the 6-foot-tall Griffin, who is seen standing next to it in the photo. "They say 'Man, you look like a dwarf compared to that thing,'" he said Wednesday. The picture is all Griffin has to back up his claims. He and Ken Holyoak, owner of the plantation, buried the beast on the property and did not want to hassle with slaughtering it since the meat of large feral hogs is typically not very good. Holyoak said he decided that the hog's head also wasn't worth keeping because it was too large to mount on a wall. He said the head has the diameter of a tire on a compact car. "We had to lift him with a backhoe," he said. No one maintains official records on hog kills in Georgia. But Department of Natural Resources biologist Kent Kammermeyer, who helped write a booklet on feral-hog problems in the state, said he has never heard of one as large as Hogzilla. Holyoak said the plantation's previous record was a 695-pound hog shot several years ago. Enough wild hogs roam Holyoak's plantation that he has made it a side business to allow people to hunt them, but he said "Hogzilla" was too big to let someone else shoot. "We killed it because we didn't want to take a chance of him getting away. Somebody else would have shot it," he said. Feral hogs, popularly known as wild hogs, are domestic hogs that escaped from farms and began living off the land. They lay waste to corn and peanut fields and deprive more than 100 species -- including squirrels and deer -- of food. "It's a big problem and it's getting worse," Kammermeyer said. "If you have a lot of hogs, you're going to have problems. Hogs are very aggressive. They run deer off and they can be dangerous if wounded or cornered." Holyoak said he had to climb into a deer stand a few years back to escape a raging hog that circled around for six hours, foaming at the mouth and snapping at branches. "They say bears get mad when you mess with their babies," Holyoak said. "Hogs don't need a reason to get mad and come after you." Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
