    hmmmm

Bill Cosby's still hawking Pudding Pops? I don't know, but I have idea you could probably tell us all.
  4. I shouold be back in town on August 13th, I can't wait.
  5. So essentially because there is no economic purpose it should not be regarded as a purposeful activity despite the fact it has deep roots? Now that is stupid. I don't know about you, but climbing feeds my soul, which in my mind is worth more than any desk monkey job and cash in hand. I didn't see what I thought of kids taking uneducated and uncalculated risks. Yeah I wouldn't climb the same way they are though some of the stuff looked fun. What I saw in the footage, looked to be more of an acrobatic and playful style of climbing. Their decision free solo is not like ours where we have the choice to free-solo or not free-solo climb. I think from their perspective it comes don to you climb or don't climb. Like they said in the film clip, they have heard of people who climb using ropes and equipment, but climbing and what they know of climbing is what we call free-soloing. So you think watching a few minute video clip you can infer that this group of climber has a indifference to life? Even if I was spend a year there with these people I probably wouldn't understand their tradition of climbing. And, yeah my upbring might lead me to believe they are indifferent to life, but then I would have to say the same for a lot of other risky activities out there, including accomplished climbers free-soloing a route. I am not going to judge people like that, if I don't like it or think it is risky, I just won't do it, I don't need to cast judgement like that. I am sure there is plenty of people who think climbing in general is just plain stupid risky activity, I don't necessarily appreciate their armchair assesment of something that brings me great joy. BTW- thanks for the link.
  6. STFU!!! The way they climb is climbing to them. They would probably look at you on the rock think you are setting up the equivalent of a via feratta. I admire their tradition, scary as hell and very bold, most likely I wouldn't be a climber if I lived there. Your above statement makes me think you simply do not belong climbing anywhere.

    hmmmm

I doubt they will come in grape, since this type of microbicide will most likely be formulated with some other type of microbicide that may have anti-retroviral (ARV) properties. ARV are used for controlling the the virus, they can also cause resistance to treatment if absorbed systemically. I guess if it was sold as a lubricant (not a microbicide) and not formulated with other microbicides, then maybe Peter you can have a grape flavored peter. There is a good chance that most microbicide can be all in one, though that will be determined later for most of them. Most of the money for microbicide development is centered around HIV prevention, so that is where most the research is focused. There have been preliminary studies with some microbicides that show other STD preventative properties. Hopefully in the future they will do more work with this since active STD's can increase the risk of HIV transmission. Sounds like they have been studying this microbicides HSV 2 prevenative properties, for them. The Gates Foundation is one of the largest donor in the world today for microbicde research. I am not sure if they will be interested in being a purchaser. Drug cost is generally related to the cost of drug development (laboratory research, animal testing and clinical research). Ideally by covering the cost of development the drugs can then be sold at a manufacturing cost in developing countries, manufacturing cost are generally quite low for a product such as microbicide, which then makes them accesible even low income people. One thing I found interesting is they said that man would apply the gel before sex. I wonder if they got a little confused with safety studies. Currently all of the microbicides that are being studied that I am familar with are applied by the woman in the vagina or by a man in the anus offering protection for a period of time. In early saftey studies male volunteers will be asked to apply the gel daily for a period of time to their penis to see if there is any adverse effects. I guess in developed countries leaving the responsibility to the man could work, since men take more of an initiative to protect themselves and partner. In Africa, the main push for microbicide development is that women can protect themselves even without their partners involvement, which with current HIV protective measures the man has to be involved, i.e. condom use.
  8. Another classic one!!!! Man some of those hucks are just off the hook. I remember seeing the full length videos of some of those clips. The one where he face plants his bars and breaks his goggles has gotta hurt. He was unconcious for a while after that kiss. Those guys are nuts, but also inspiring, what is possible. Make a 10 foot drop seem reasonable.
  9. I was born a 20 y.o. bike riding adult? Yo, you know what I meant Ms. Smartypants
  10. Starbucks blows!!! Not just becuase they are a chain, but because their coffee sucks. As far how much I am willing to pay for a good cup of coffee I guess it is pretty dependant on how bad I want it. I never though I would find my self paying $10 for a small bottle of beer, but damn when there isn't any choices and you want a good beer, it is amazing what you will pay. I feel the same way about my coffee.
  11. That problem looks nice. Never been on it. Dave next time don't drink so much coffee.
  12. It has sounded like in the past that you see more bi than straight.

    HELLO SEATTLE!

Sounds like even the out of towners don't know how to drive in Seattle. Hint- the lanes are switched, the passing lane is generally on the right side of the highway. The left side is the slow lane. Ok now drive along now.....
  14. A friend of mine used to say for all three of her children that the most important thing to do in order get a good night sleep is to stick them on the boob as much as possible while they are awake. She believe that was the key to restful sleep for all three children. I tend to think it is more luck than anything. Simone usually quite hungry in the morning though it is really funny, when she sees the bottle in the morning she has sort of Bevias and Butthead sort of laugh, heh heh heh.

    yummy recipes

The other night I had crab cakes (dungeness crab that was caught and canned the last time I was in Seattle) on normal salad. Made an asian influenced dressing (toasted seasame oil, rice vinegar, seasame/nori flavored salt and other stuff) to go with it. Mmm good. This last weekend I made real authentic beef tamales. Started serval packages of dried chilis, de-stemmed, de-seeded, boiled, purreed, screened out missed seeds and skins. Then cook shreaded beef, potatoes, olives, raisains, onions with the pepper sauce. Made the masa from Masa-seca (only place where I cheated) and then spent the rest of the afternoon rolling, tieing and steaming. Still managed to go home with about 25 of these tasty suckers after feeding everyone there and splitting the leftovers with my friend who I made them with. Yum. A few weeks ago we watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, great movie. I made the appropiate pizza to go along with it. Made a somewhat normal pesto, with the addition of over an 1/8 of herb. Made a pesto pizza with roasted eggplant and ricotta. ams- The chantrelle potato salad sounds good, maybe I will make it for a bbq this weekend. I was thinking of marinating some chicken and making some Jerk Chicken. Wetspot- dats nasty. I like junk food, ketchup and mac and cheese (though my favorite mac and cheese recipe is not anything like that). Putting them all together though is nasty. Gary- The provencal potato salad that I like making has all of what you mentioned but I like adding in those mini fresh motzrella balls, smoke trout or salmon, mixed salad green and niciose olives. Serve with fresh crusty baguette and room temp butter. Walla dinner is served and no need to get roosters feathers all ruffled. Summertime, which it is here every day, is meant for salads. Not wilting lettuce with gobbs of nasty dressing, but meals. Grilled meat or seafood make a salad a nice meal. Or sometimes even some good ham and cheese on the salad. An east coast sandwich called an "italian" is something that you all have never probably heard of on the west coast. Anyways it is a great summer sandwich. Take your baguette or italian loaf and cut to the length you want. slice the top center of your loaf not all the way through and open it up for the ingredients. Add slices of ham and cheese, then chunks of tomato, raw onion, raw green pepper, sliced dill pickle, slices of olive. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and pour a good olive oil over the top. I had that for lunch today. My favorite one is made with cappacola and aged provolone. A traditional italian is made with soft white italian bread, boiled ham, and american cheese with all the other ingredients. I like better bread, ham and cheese.
  16. Ha, you poor suckers with sleepless nights. Simone right from the start slept a solid 5-7 hours with out waking. The first night she slept on my chest the whole night. Now-a-days she is 11 months and now sleeping 10 hours straight 8pm-6am. It is awesome.
  17. I had a indoor cat who took off, Boogieboy wasn't the smartest cat and used to freak out. After a couple of weeks I figured he was dead, but a month after he escaped (made the mistake) we found him. He didn't look like he had much in the ways of survival skills, since he dropped about 15 lbs in a month. Also he was so grubby, we barely recognized him. Well it might have taken him a month to drop 15, but it was about 2 eeks and he was back to his "normal" boogie self.
  18. So I see you have power for the drill and the driller. Sweet.
  19. I do find some humor in the poop wennie roast for placing a bolt and having said 'that there is a place in climbing for bolts'. I guess I find humorous since I really don't have a strong objection to bolts, but have never found the need to place one even though I have brought a drill kit with me. All the time I have come across a place where I could use one I have backed down or found a way around or just gone for it. BTW-it now clear you are not completely opposed to bolts, but definitely opposed to grid bolting. I can tell you it hasn't been clear in the past and the way you have come across your attitude and my interpetation of your stance was that you were completely opposed to bolting of any kind.
  20. Awesome picture again. So how tall are some of these walls like the one in this picture? Look like there is some great climbing potential, most likely they have already been climb.
  21. Congrats on your first outing, good stuff!!!! As for shirt taking off etiquette, you can be rest assured no one will mind a shirt coming off.
  22. That one is good one, it is pretty amazing what these guys can do. Hell I have a hard enough time trying to the simplest things he does like 180 to reverse, 180 rotation on the front wheel and manual wheelies. I wish I would have started off as a kid.
  23. I figured this thing is over, well it has been for me for a while now. I have leveled off at 185, been there for quite a while. If I really get motivated I will try and drop another 10 lbs, but beer has been tasting so good lately now that it is dry season.
  24. Eww what are doing with some dudes tool????
  25. All that will do is get areas shut down to ALL kinds of climbing and bring about further ridiculous regulations. No it won't not if done right. BTW poop I don't think climber ever had anything in common to bird watchers. We use a resource around us, not just observe it, no matter if you climb trad or sport.
