So far: 1) Bonanza Peak 2) Mt Olympus in 48 hours 3) Met my goal of pushing myself to lead some 5.9 routes albight it was sport (with 30' of crack) but still harder than I am normally comfortable with. The bonus was no falls on either route
  7. Matt is right on...find out how much you carry and then find the pack that carries it in the most comfortable way to you. I personally went ahead and spent the $$ for a McHale custom pack. Most comfortable and best made pack I have seen and used. If you ask (and with a deposit) you can usually demo one prior to buying. Worth checking out http://www.mchalepacks.com/index.htm If you want the full spectra pack like the Kelty, it is in the same ballpark as far as cost goes...
  8. On duty at the fire house. I had gotten up early to finish a few reports when a another firefighter called and adamantly told me to turn the TV on. The replays of the planes being swallowed by the buildings seemed like a hollywood movie. Today has been a day of reflection and appreciation for everything in my life. Family, good friends and the freedom to climb in this great part of the world we live in. May you all do the same and to all a long and safe life.

  13. I can vouch for NCascadeMtns. He does climb up to 5.9 in his boots. It isn't always pretty but he gets it done. Not my cup of tea but to each his own. He did get me to leave my shoes at home for Easy alpine routes (5.4 and under). It has made me more confident to climb harder grades with shoes

  21. I am new to ice climbing but being 200+ lbs I bought 3 of the Yates screamers. Hope I never need to use them. As for using on rock, well I probably won' t use them in that application due to being like a draw and not dissapating the rope vibration enough not to pop pro...
