  1. Iain is correct. I didn't want to go into detail too much other wise i would have to put on a class about it...
  2. It is also referred to as a High strength Tie off in rescue community. This is to maintain the full strength of the rope in certain situations where high forces will be applied.
  3. Hey CBS...take those strength percentages with a grain of salt. In other words don't believe everything you read. I tie in with a bowline both for climbing & in my rescue duties. The strength difference is negligible between a bowline & fig 8. Those that say otherwise are full of it.
  4. Fig 8 doesn't slip - where did you hear that crap ???...it self tightens during loading...so it doesn't really need a backup if tied correctly (at least 4" tail).
  5. Just use a bowline backed up using a yosemite finish...easier to untie after it's been loaded.

    Self Rescue

Get a tibloc & use your daisy chain to attach to the rope. Then use a couple of single runners or a double girth hitched to a small prusik for you feet. that is ALL you need to ascend for rescue. you can always use another small prusik in place of the tibloc. I don't worry about not tying into the chest...most times I prefer to NOT be tied by my chest so I can pivot upside down if necessary. For actual rescue work I use what is called a purcell prusik system. It consists of a chest loop & 2 differnt sized foot loops. I can show you them whan I see you again.
  7. I bought the Helium (+15) last year and would also agree it's the same bag & down as this year. I haven't used my bag enough to know for sure, but it seems the lack of baffles has led to having a few cold spots here and there.
  8. I bought this pack a year ago and used once climbing Shuksan. I made the mistake of going with the large frame instead of the regular. Selling for $185 email me for further... cooper07@msn.com

Hey N-NW good use of sarcasm! ( I have .2 - 4) I read a review on Gearshark or Epinions. Which is why I posted the question here... To get more info / opinions. Maybe you have one you would like to share?

    Building a Rack

I have read a review of the camalots that said they may have a tendancy to pull out more than the Tech friends? Any truth to this? Since I am over 200 lbs, cam holding power means everything to me! I read that the cam angle of the BD is 14 degrees compared to 13.75 for most other brands incl WC. Is the difference of .25 degrees make a big difference? Since I am new to climbing I am trying to get all the info I can...thanks
