Hey, I believe your opinionated response was as valid as any other. What does anyone expect? Are we supposed to have canned answers, the rubber stamp response to every tragic climbing accident? Sometimes we see subdued responses that really don’t speak to anyone in particular, the typical condolences. I didn’t take any offense with your comment, it was somewhat jarring but it resonated with a part of what I believe too. Be careful, use your head, think, listen to your instincts, climb responsibly, know your climbing partner, and be prepared for the unexpected. I don’t believe that your response was a basis for hating you as a person. You can’t judge the entire essence of person for what he posts on a website. These are only words, your real life actions as a climbing partner or whatever may show you to be something different. Courage to speak what you believe, I think, defines you as much as your climbing. I see your responses as an attempt to clarify your thinking and that I believe is a large part of our lives, to see through all of the murkiness of life and to see more clearly.

Teachers typically tend to spoon feed facts to their students. Instructors show you methods. Personally I believe that there comes a time in your life when education is your own responsibilty, especially in college or other higher education. A professor might be a guide but it's largely your own initiative to learn. MIT (Mass. Institute of Tech.) offers a free and open educational source available for all. link to MIT OpenCourseWare "With the publication of 500 courses, MIT is delivering on the promise of OpenCourseWare that we made in 2001. We are thrilled that educators, students, and self-learners from all parts of the globe tell us that MIT OCW is having an impact on education and learning. We hope that in sharing MIT’s course materials, and our experience thus far with MIT OCW, we will inspire other institutions to openly share their course materials, creating a worldwide web of knowledge that will benefit mankind." - Charles M. Vest, President of MIT

Love decapitates me, I stick to a meniscus of failure Let my hope die with my ant-farm. Jazzy Jeff never meant it to be this way Earnest effort, rewarded with a blunt instrument Lillies float and winter chills a new orb Lilac scents a Haiku writer's tear soaked ricepaper Your mother recites Monty Python. Briars of desolation choke a fragile intent Ears of corn, crude bludgeons, malicious bent Anger fuels a savage denial Nun feeding frenzy, dead children in a pile Solar flares never felt this alone. The real issue on the home front is that some conservatives construe ‘support for the troops’ as meaning, “Do not criticize the action in Iraq.” Why? Because these conservatives view the ‘action in Iraq’ as identical to the troops so it follows that a criticism of the ‘action in Iraq’, which is actually a criticism of the current Administration, is an act of denouncing the troops stationed there. Some liberals, on the other hand, believe that we support our troops by using them effectively for a just and strategic cause, that is, the soldiers who will die, will not have died in vain. These liberals do not advocate abolition of the armed forces, to do so would be suicidal, but to hold the decision-makers accountable. Hypothetically, put yourself in the shoes of a parent who had lost a son or daughter in a war. Would you believe that, the ultimate sacrifice was justifiable because one must do unquestionably what the government demands? Even soldiers have felt the need to speak out though the ‘military’ is, in a sense, a hive-mind, meaning that individual decisions are subsumed for the sake of the mission. “I was only following orders” should not become a mantra whether you are a citizen or a soldier. No. However unfavorably some people see McDermott, maybe his was the voice in the wilderness and it has been said that a prophet is not heeded in one’s own country and must travel abroad at times to be heard. I don’t necessarily agree with the man’s politics but sometimes the voice on the fringe points out an image of truth on the multi-faceted object of our reality. Maybe the man is more a fool than a prophet. I, however, do not see his action associated with intent such as that committed by Jane Fonda during the Vietnam War when she posed in the anti-aircraft battery with the enemy and earned her the name, Hanoi Jane. McDermott’s action took place prior to the involvement of our troops in this desert equivalent of Yugoslavia. I don’t care to get involved in detailed political debates arguing my so-called conservative or liberal beliefs. I also don’t want to parrot the version of reality issued by the press. I do want to present a picture of the Iraqi situation available at this link: Kevin Sites unaffliciated blog site . You may find this site offers a glimpse into the life of Iraq without pushing a partisan agenda. Disclaimer: Views subject to change. No claims of validity to truth are implied. The Pettijohn Theory Playboy Models' Curves May Be Sign of the Times By E. J. Mundell NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - "Boom or bust" may take on new meaning as researchers theorize a link between U.S. economic conditions and subtle changes in Playboy centerfold physiques. According to researchers, a comparison of the faces and figures of Playmates of the Year from 1960 to 2000 suggests men may prefer stronger-looking women in hard times, and softer, more vulnerable types when bull markets resume. David Blaine is an illusionist. I visited a blog site over the last couple of days and I saw a reference to how he performed the 44 day fast. Problem is, I can't locate that reference again. Apparently, he sneaks out at night and sneaks back in, under cover of someone cleaning the seethrough panel on the box. The lighting is arranged so that he can do this without being observed directly. Have you seen the magician who debunks the 'magic' performed by his kind? This guy showed how Blaine appeared to levitate. These are all tricks and illusions. The medium of TV and film allows easier creation of illusions and we all know that seeing is believing. But what aren't you seeing? I'd like to believe there's real magic and you would too. That's probably the illusionist's best ally. That and their knowledge of psychology.

Don't mess with your registry unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Try this instead. Hit 'Ctrl-Alt-Delete' to bring up Task Manager. Note the running processes, write these down or something. Now, go on to this site: task list programs Go through the Task List Programs to see which ones are legitimate and which ones appear to be malware. This may take some time but will cure your problem. BTW, there are some zeroday viruses out there that affect MS IE because patches have not yet been developed by MS Security. In that case, if you know what you are doing, you can go to site called Hacktivismo and do a search for remedies that involve modifying your registries. Use caution whem modifying your registries.

"My First Clue"--Weird story ( from the weekly epiphany ) We walk along the top of a short cliff that looks out over the ocean. The moon is making the beach glow. The ocean has pulled back, leaving acres of flatland. It's cold and windy and very late. We descend the stairway that leads to the beach. I notice a person walking slowly, right at the surf line. An old lady. She's dressed in a dark coat, hard to see. She walks a few steps, bends down, picks something up, puts it in a bag. Shell collecting. I point her out to you. I admire the woman's dedication. You laugh. We stroll along the beach. Closer to the old lady. I see her better now. Her bag is a piece of fishing net, full of shells. A wave hits her. She falls. I panic, run toward her. You yell. I can't understand your words. Hard to see her on the sand. Stay focused on her bag, white with shells. I never lose sight of the bag, not for a moment. I'm afraid I'll lose her in the dark. She's drowning. She needs help. I run up to her. No woman. Just an old-woman-shaped little pool on the sand. I reach down to pick up her bag of shells. My hand comes back full of sea foam. You run up to me. I straighten. My brain explodes. I ask "You did see a woman, right?" "Yes." "I saw God." "I saw grandma."

The maze Symbols inside the skull. This is a small fragment of a huge painting by a 25 years-old schizophrenic artist. Raised in a farm in Canada's mid-west plains, he experienced a very violent childhood that in turn made him totally shy and closed and he took refuge in a world of strange fantasies. Hmm...anything about this remind you of anyone?

Could you imagine what people looked like to him?

is that you're inner pussy? or your inner beauty? Minx, that's an artist's rendition documenting his progression into schizophrenia. So, yeah I'm using the old definition of schizophrenia as 'split mind'.

I guess Robertson didn't really mean it. He was "merely trying to characterize in 'laughing fashion' a book that casts the State Department in a negative light." The public can now forgive him. Isn't that the crux of his fundamentalist religion?
