  3. Jim was a wonderful man and an great father. I can't express my condolences enough to the Corbin family. I spent 3 years in HS frequently going over to their house and travelling with them up to their house at Alpental for long weekends. RIP Jim, god bless you and our family
  4. eh, a guide would be cool, but everyone knows about goldbar. I find it odd that people say no one knows about it.....

  6. If you do go to Bluff, swing by the Recapture Lodge and ask Jim Hook about Monarch Cave. My family has spent 9 months in the Bluff area and everything around there is amazing.

  9. yeah, immolate, but I have read the definition as to kill yourself by fire, so then I have to say "tries to immolate himself" or tried, which sounds kinda weird because he did light himself on fire, he just didn't die. I mean you guys can joke all you want, but things here are only getting worse.
  10. by Luke Distelhorst if you ever read my blog, you'll know that there have been protests here for the last two weeks. Last night things went up a notch: Mongolian Protester Lights Himself on Fire by Luke Distelhorst "Last night at 12:30am on Sukhbaatar square, a protester claimed he was going to light himself on fire. The hunger strike members thought nothing of it until they heard the screams from outside." go to my blog for the rest: http://mongolia.neweurasia.net a very sad event.....
  11. If the route wasn't climbed before 1921 it is invalid.
  12. sounds like someone is planning on hearing news about a certain baby.....????
  13. not too much, like around $80 USD, but that isn't a very good indicator for Mongolia. People always refer to it, but it isn't the most important.
  14. yeah, it isn't that sensational. There were protests back in the fall when a few students admitted to being paid by the government, but no one said it directly to a reporter. The busses went all the way almost outside of UB to pick up these students at a student dormitory. These students usually don't even come into downtown UB because it is like a 45min drive. When the busses were being loaded up there were "bodyguard" type guys ushering the students on the city busses and telling them not to talk to reporters. real protesters try to get as much tv air time as possible. You should have seen the kids laughing while they walked around sukhbaatar and then got back on the bus and left. and yeah, Tg5,000= $4.20 or so. but to the students 5,000 is quite a bit of money.
  15. seriously....sometime soon. I'm actually a little scared.... If you haven't been reading my blog I hate you. too many things are backing up against the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party and they can only hold out for so long before they give in or institute some kind of scary police state. http://mongolia.neweurasia.net/ touted as "the most up to date news site on Mongolia" (in english of course) I'm off to sleep, been putting in long days recently. hope all is well for all you wankers, clown punchers, hot carl lovers and generally cool people.
  16. I think dru is getting better with age, or posts. after 30,000+ his post quality to post number is almost 1:1

  22. oh I definitely condone a spare bettery no matter where you are in the world! especially on any trip where you won't be able to find another one. maybe even two.....
  23. what kind of digi are you taking? A lot of people use those litte handwarmers to keep batteries warm and the life longer, but it really depends on what kind of camera you're taking. digi-slr batteries are way better than point and shoot, thus you won't need to do the handwarmer drill or anything. I've had my camera outside for 72 hours straight in -25 to -35C temps and my battery was still full, as well as I took around 75pics.

I don't climb anymore....you don't have to rub it in!!! If you send me enough money to buy a car I can have a MGL bouldering photo assault up and ready in 4-5days. even if you don't have enough money for a car, diapers are expensive here!!!
