  1. Sure, you'll have to work more, and you'll probably get at least a little pale and fat (plus your hands will become soft and your connective tissue weak), but think of how fast you'll be able to fire in that top rope, and hey, you'll have a whole new outlook on life! That's worth something....

  3. That's why you wait for the stupid slope to get smart and shape up. Ya gotta ski locally and know the terrain and the snow pack, be patient and have a flexible work scene to ski the bc there.
  4. Yeah, boot packing for passes is a time honored tradition amoung ski bums throughout Colorado. I have to say tho that there is lots of great backcountry to be had out there and if you pay attention to the patterns, it is a lot more hit than miss. Sure the avy danger can be high but terrain is everything. Don't ski stupid places at stupid times. Colorado is great, but after discovering the Northwest, with its rugged, spectacular backcountry, local, homegrown ski areas and the 40% dicount skiing just across the border( in towns containing friendly, positive, helpful locals)....I just ain't goin' back! 8. Too late Kissyface, I've already been there, even before they had a lift.... Think Globally, Ski Locally TLG, looks like you are having no problems getting dialed in out there....Good on ya Goat

  10. I keep forgetting about that never tried it Russ, do you think it would stay down while one was making turns? Have you tried it that way?
  11. Good call ehmmic Thanks for reading the small print
  12. Voile Three pin cable (hotwire) is my favorite set up for the ski that goes both inbound and out. Here's why: Yesterday we toured up to Herman Saddle. I took the cables off and just three pinned it, making for a lighter, smoother, more flexible tour. When we got to the top, I decided to leave the cables off because the powder was so light and deep. Without the cables there is less tip dive and more flexibility. Three pin alone is superb for powder and corn conditions Plus, if you can combine it with the CRB (Complete Releasable Binding) set up and have the ability to snap out of your skis in knee wrenching falls and avalanches. Voile is so time proven you can't go wrong. No chinzy, out-sourced parts that break. The only down side is cleaning the packed snow off of the toe of your boots so you can get it on the three pins. BTW The Voile Three Pin Hardwire is also $40 cheaper than either the T/9 or the 02
  13. Just got back from skiing up and down from Herman Saddle. Super Super Sweet Powder conditions are to be had! The snow is in great shape and well consolidated. If you have the gear (and the legs) head out for the backcountry. The ski area is about 99% used up and getting very icy. Goat

I was definitely right about the "ankles" part. I wonder where Kurt heard it the first time?

  20. I lost a bet once while traveling in Europe. A very large German named Helmut bet me he could open a bottle of wine without using a corkscrew, breaking the bottle or pushing the cork into the bottle. I accepted and he proceeded to smack the butt of the bottle repeatedly with a very large and powerful hand. The cork slowly inched it's way out until it protruded enough for Helmut to grab it and pull it out. Later, while skiing on a glacier we had the same dilemma. With gloved hands we tried to repeat Helmut's stunt, but it hurt too much. I think we used a sneaker and smacked it with that until the cork came out enough for us to grab it. My climbing partner tried the hold & smack method a few years ago, about a week before we were suppose to climb Stuart. Bottle shattered - sliced finger tendon - end of climbing season. Thump it against the wall, people! Not your hand, the wall! And you can hold it in a towel, to be safe. Sheesh. Watch it these days guys, the bottle manufactuers have been making weak bottles to stifle the bottle washing industry that serviced the smaller vineyards. The big guys don't like losing any market share. The bottles in Europe are probably much thicker. Why the hell is this thread going on and on...
