  4. The skiing on the Colchuck Glacier Looked like it would be Schweet. It was great to be out there this time of year. Bug and I made a solid skin track for those that might follow (Hroarck). Some of the turns are a bit awkward tho, we were following an old packed trail made by snowshoers (sp?) Goat

  9. I have done it out West where there are fewer rail lines. If you look at the maps, by the time you get East of the Mississippi it is one massive jumble. I road from Grand Junction Colo to Reno one summer. It was a blast, and weird and dangerous, and beautiful. Doing it in the winter would be brutal on the exposure level.
  10. Hey Bug! I am definitely interested. Let me see if I can juggle a few things around Cheers, BG
  11. And here I thought that he was just a mild mannered barrister named ChucK. That could definitely pass for him in thirty years.
  12. Trask, what you say has merit on a certain level, or from a certain perspective. I just find it depressing that we as a species can envision a life that is not a constant warzone requiring the tactics you offer, but cannot realize it yet. Our country is certainly doing its part to keep things competitive in a deadly way. I see too much crass individualism, brutal social darwinism, and rampant materialism and greed for my liking. My cousin was shot from behind, at the age of 32, by some punks out on a killing spree, for fun. They killed five people that night. I believe that if they didn't have those guns it would not have happened. I also wonder why stuff like that happens more often here than in a country like Canada that also has a lot of guns. The most obvious answer must be that we are a bellicose nation. What good is it really doing us?

  17. Did anyone catch this? It's a little late but: National Park Service Requests Public Input for Frontcountry Climbing Management Plan, Ross Lake National Recreation Area CONTACT: Roy Zipp Roy_Zipp@nps.gov Prepared November 17, 2003 The National Park Service would like suggestions on issues and concerns that should be addressed in a management plan for climbing in the frontcountry of Ross Lake National Recreation Area. Rock climbing is becoming increasingly popular in parts of the recreation area readily accessible by road. Park Superintendent Bill Paleck said that, “We’ll be writing a management plan and an environmental assessment to ensure the preservation of park resources while accommodating this relatively new use in acceptable ways.” Rock climbing is becoming increasingly popular in parts of the recreation area readily accessible by road. Park Superintendent Bill Paleck said that, “We’ll be writing a management plan and an environmental assessment to ensure the preservation of park resources while accommodating this relatively new use in acceptable ways.” Rock climbing has grown rapidly in recent years where cliffs are close to the North Cascades Highway in Ross Lake National Recreation Area, particularly in the Skagit River gorge between Newhalem and Diablo. National Park Service management policies permit rock climbing subject to planning for the specific park and its particular resources and potential resource impacts. “Right now we’re requesting public input,” Paleck said, “to identify issues and concerns regarding recreational climbing in Ross Lake National Recreation Area. These will help us develop alternatives to be evaluated in the required environmental assessment.” The park staff has compiled this preliminary list of topics to be addressed: · Fixed anchors · Informal paths to climbing areas · Removal of vegetation from climbing routes · Human waste · Cultural resources · Safety · Development of new climbing routes To proceed with writing the environmental assessment in a timely way comments regarding issues and concerns need to be received by December 5, 2003. Address them to: Superintendent North Cascades National Park Service Complex 810 State Route 20 Sedro-Woolley, WA 98284 Comments may also be sent via e-mail to: NOCA_Superintendent@nps.gov Or by fax: 360/856-1934 If you have questions, please contact Roy Mason Zipp, Natural Resources Specialist at (360) 873-4590 extension 31 or e-mail roy_zipp@nps.gov.
  18. Because of bad customer service? I know that turned me off to Black Diamond. However, I won't cut off my nose to spite my face, some of their climbing equipment is really good.
  19. Do you think sweatshops? I would think that Arc wouldn't take the risk of bad publicity.
  20. Ibex, Filson, and the Austrian/Swiss/German surplus winter gear at Army-Navy stores across the great nation, none are made in China. Patagucci is probably made overseas in the third world but the people are likely well trained and compensated so if you want to be stylish, go there. Mountain Hardware has been the biggest letdown for me Good to know Arc Teryx is not made there. But where is it made? I do like their stuff so far.
  21. Tough one, but album cover wins
  22. All their stuff is made in China. I have a pair of their pants I like. They started in Telluride. Not sure where they are now. Maybe TLG can check for us.
  23. yeah, I never look at a girl's shoes. If a girl has a gun in her hands, that is what catches my eye first, then her hair color...
