We have been mighty sheltered since the Vietnam war. At least of a whole bunch a bad stuff happens the next for years it will toughen us up a bit. If Kerry was re-elected I think we would get back into a comfortable zone and become even weaker when the next Republican comes along. If Bush keeps screwing up, maybe more people will come to realize the changes that need to happen in this country and actually get mad anough to do something about it. Now, we just sit on our asses and let stuff happen to us. Some countries would physically throw the president out if they behaived like ours. I think we need to regain that kind of strength and remind the government who is boss.

I'm personally against any new development, but this is what you get when the population rises. As demand increases with the population, for places people can relax, resorts will be built to supply the demand. I think it's pretty selfish of us to try to stop new development like this. Not everyone enjoys the outdoors the same way we do and I don't think its our place to say that if they don't enjoy the outdoors the same way we do, they can't do it at all. If its on private land, then let it be. It could be worse. Their not putting a goldola up Steamboat Prow or anything. The more we gripe about them, the more THEY will gripe about us. Ideally, I would not like this built, but it is a consequence of our population. The reason I am writing this is for everyone to be careful about what they say in the letters and to realize the possible consequences of taking action like this, which could ultimatly lead to more restricted access for climbers. If you want to solve this problem, tackle population growth and relocation to the NW.

Very good article! Science must withstand testing and scutiny.

Those wires are hooked up to a box. if you fall, you get shocked to death. Makes the problem more interesting. No really. they are hooked up to a box and when they break from falling rock a warning alerts the engineers.

We called it Lizard Rock because of all the lizards than lounge on it in the summer. I traversed it north to south. I've done the whole thing, but I usually start beginning with the overhang to avoid loose rock. After the overhang there is some weirdness Hoodini friction then a feet of acrobatics to stretch (do the splits) under small slopey thing, then it gets easy until a campusing swing and weird pull with total friction trust onto the last easy slab. We also put up a few easier ones going straight up the wall. I have not been able to reverse the traverse. I'll buy someone a beer if they do it. Except for Luke, he's not 21 yet.He gets soda. The traverse: The overhanging crux on traverse: Be careful on the left side (north end) of the wall. A chunk fell off and hit my friend in the leg. Arete, .5 mile north on Tracks:

From the parking there (with yellow gate), you can hike down to the tracks and there are a few problems there that I put up a few years ago from V0-V2 range, put them together you have a 30 foot traverse. Traverse the whole wall low is 3-4 problems linked. More also if you hike north on tracks about 1/2 to 1 mile. There is also a cliff in the woods around there that has some stuff.

I fix it at the top. When climbing take up slack with gri-gri. Tie a backup knot below gri-gri and clip in every once in a while.

Grab your digital cameras and polypro! Post yourself wearing your best mountie costume here and winner gets a pitcher of beer. Current pictures only, no archives. For those of you who don't know what a mountie looks like, I added the pictures below (pictures from another recent thread). I will vote for the final three, then everyone can vote for the winner. This will end soon after Halloween. Good luck! Two examples of Mounties:
