one of the sorieties at my college, for part of initiation crap for pledges, used to line the girls up in the alley behind the house dressed in nothing but their panties. the older chicks used to get to go along the line and insult their appearance. one year the members of the frat next door joined in the fun

i think one or two people lambasted erik. but it seems that while many of us think erik is an asshole, not so many of us disagree with his view. maybe he's being less tactful than others by stating it but it's obvious he's not the only one thinking it. i prefer that when an accident is close to home (ie. the recent death's at l'worth) that people slow down on their analysis of the details b/c there's a good chance someone "here" might know the deceased. but outside of that, i see nothing wrong w/assessing the situation. haven't we all made stupid mistakes in life when a little more attention to detail would've spared a lot of grief? when climbing, i'm far more concerned with the consequence of my actions resulting in my injury or death than i am some freak act of dog/nature. if you disagree w/erik, explain why. don't post some juvenille innuendo.

yes. you came out of the closet long ago. could you possibly be a little more creative? just b/c you can't keep your mind out of the closet doesn't mean you've gotta find something lame to nitpik out of decent post. now go hold the closet door for someone else i think this is a good topic. i've often felt the same way that erik has expressed here. death is a delicate subject and it's interesting to hear how people handle the discussions surrounding it.

scott- little cracked couldn't push my buttons if i put his finger right on them. it's like watching little puppies frolic, it's cute until they pee on the carpet; then you have to rub their noses in it. he'll pee down his leg soon enough.

this is just a test to see if you're smart enough to find you're way through a bureaucratic maze. we wouldn't want practical, sensible people working in hospitals filled w/"policies" and redtape now would we?

nope! i hope he'll "out" himself! but in the mean time i'll handle the slams via PM. he's crazy if he thinks he can avoid that

One of cc.com posters (posers?)-YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE-has recently finished his first (last?) marathon. Congrats!!! Good Job! Way to Go! he's choosing to remain anonymous and keep his time a secret but i just wanted to throw some good thoughts his way. it's a tough thing to do. he put in the training miles and suffered through it to finish. it may not have been a world record but definitely a big achievement.

i need a creatively naughty idea for a costume party this w/e. i've got several but i bet this crew can come up w/something new. my date hasn't decided what to wear so it's conceivable we could do some lame couple type of thing too

i climbed with my dad from the time i was old enough to totter up the trail until i went to college. all easy alpine stuff. he didn't have the stomach to watch me climb anything particularly difficult. i still cherish those moments as some of the best in my life. nothing like standing on a summit w/dad to his credit, i enjoyed climbing with him but we didn't do it so much that it interferred with me having a healthy dose of other kid activities and friends. when i became competitive in another sport at age 10, he even learned that and competed as an amateur dad. my son climbs alot of easy alpine routes with me. he's turning into an enjoyable partner. i try to pick things that will challenge him in some way but never scare him. when he gets tired and cranky i go for a blend of humor and bribery. he's climbed all the peaks near alpental. most recently we had a nice scramble up the class 3 route on red moutain. he has climbed many peaks in the olympics. even a long 15 mile day when he was only 5. i've let him hike up to the muir hut w/me and had to gently tell him that i wouldn't let him climb rainier yet. climbing with him has been such a great experience. it's given him so much confidence and me so much respect for what he can do all by himself. when it comes to roping up, that's always his call. some days he doesn't feel like it, some days he does. i always bring shoes and a harness. if he doesn't want to climb he can play in the dirt. climb with your kids!

i second that one! traffic isn't the only reason i'm late for morning meetings Yeah. That's a good one when you've got your buddy hanging around. yeah... but like for me, that can mean two things. it only means one thing for me
