this post is largely directed at griz and whomever else it applies: why all the animosity towards the post about a chick soloing rainier. sorry if it bothers you that it was pointed out that it was a woman climber. i don't think anyone acknowledging this climb cares in particular that it was done by a woman. nor are they acknowledging it b/c they're simply horny guys as was implied on that thread. 1) would you be equally offended if i said did you see that woman who won the figure skating gold medal? or should i just say skater? maybe the inclusion of gender is a throw back to days of yore but get over it. it's not demeaning to Hannah--she probably considers it a good thing that people can identify her as female. 2) there are fewer female climbers than male. it's more of a novelity so it gets pointed out. it doesn't diminish the accomplishments of a man doing the same route. 3) you're demeaning the guys on the board by suggesting that they're fawning over this accomplishment just b/c it was done by a woman. that's crap. we all bitch b/c there's not enough posts about climbing. well that was a post about climbing and people posted on it. they would've posted on it if you or some other guy had done that particular climb d) acknowledging personal accomplishments, regardless of difficulty isn't a bad thing. so what if it had been the DC route in june? if that had been a goal of someone and CBS had posted something about it, then where's the harm. you might not think much of the route but others might appreciate the personal accomplishment.

why? so he can be closer to the gay cowboys. griz--seriously, whatever dude. seems like you've got some issues.

nice work! i remember hiking up there eons ago. i was disappointed with the puddle but the climbing looked amazing! -
i'd like say that i'm only impressed b/c she's a woman. if this had been posted about griz i wouldn't have posted at all.

half dome--imo--pros-i like it b/c it's comfortable and i can see out from under it better than my petzl helmet. cons-it seems to crack easily if dropped from short distances or packed slightly askew. i don't wear mine as often as may be prudent.

why does a town the size of black diamond merit it's own liquor store?

Hey Tex, what should we hear about here then? i don't care if it's a chick who did it or not. Solo winter ascent of that mountain is worth reading about. i hope she puts up her own TR. back off--just b/c it's not "rock" climbing doesn't mean it's not an achievment.
-
I think Hannah could safely expect to make Tex her bitch right now. and a on that climb.

i'm just bitter b/c i've got to pay extra if i pack a bag that's too heavy. i've heard a few of explanations for this 1) b/c the plane can only handle so much weight and they calculate an avg per passenger. i've exceeded this number and must pay extra 2) the heavier the plane is the more fuel it uses and thus my excess weight costs them money 3) it's a risk to the baggage handlers. in the first 2 scenarios, i'm getting hosed for having 10 extra pounds in my bags but the guy who weighs an extra hundred pounds himself gets off scot free. if i have to pay extra for packing an extra pair of ski boots, the obese guy should have to pay extra for packing a pair of size 54 pants. i might buy off on the last one. it still sounds lame to me though.
