  1. I don't think this is eco-terrorism at all. It is not the typical high profile property destruction that ELF is so fond of. No, I think it is just someone with a personal vendetta against the FS or else some crazy f---er out for kicks.
  2. When the Heybrook Lookout was being rebuilt, someone cut the gate with a gas powered saw, then drove up the road and used the saw to cut into a steel shipping container and made off with $2000 in tools that were being used in the construction. This was about two years ago.
  3. This message was passed on to me originally from Scott Loerts, WDFW Safety Officer. I can't vouch as to its veracity.
  4. It's what happens in your search when you misspell a name. Other Thread
  5. Did anyone happen to hear the NPR story on Fresh Air about the death of Ulrich Inderbinen, a Swiss Mountain guide who died at the age of 103. He was guiding on the Matterhorn into his mid 90's. Link
  6. Your "hair" could be insulation from satellites or boosters burning up on reentry.
  7. Deceptioncrags.com used to have every route in it until the guide was published (same author, Garth Bruce). Buy the book. It's good, and Garth put a lot of work into it.
  8. Anyone climb the Black Buttes near Baker? They are reputed to be choss city.
  9. As I recall it is a route that is reached from White Slabs. I've heard a lot of people have a hard time finding the route.
  10. It would have to be either Larabee or Johannesburg for me. Larabee is just a walk up, but it is covered with clinkers that are next to impossible not to step on. You have to just ride them a little and step off onto the next one. Johannesburg is steep enough in a lot of places that you'll want to use your hands. The holds are all portable. They work okay if you push down, but not out. I've never seen quite so many portable holds in situ as on that mountain. What I mean is not free from their original location, but ready to be pulled free.
  11. There is a 5.9 thin crack that Wayne1112 talked me into leading. I borrowed some small stuff off of mattp. It's a good thing I did.
  12. BD Hex #6- Vantage, Smileys Stopper #7- Castle Rock, Yellow Alien - Exit 32
  13. The court said atheist Michael Newdow could not sue to ban the pledge from his daughter's school and others because he did not have legal authority to speak for her. What a cop out! Story
  14. Climbed the East Ridge of Ingalls, North Peak with PaulK. I leave it to him to cough up the trip report.
  15. You got THAT right.
  16. The contract can be legally severed if it was the product of fraud. I should think that the safest thing is generally to get the contract nullified in court rather than defaulting and then getting sued, but I'm not a lawyer.

    :fahq:'in goats

I just bought a salt lick at the Monroe feed store. I'm going to break it up into chunks and brink a few with me in goat country. If I encounter one of those pests, I'll drop a chunk and that ought to keep 'em busy for a while.
  18. Who's everyone? Why would you not replace 1/4" with 3/8" so the job will last a few years?
  19. Underline the word "routes".
  20. So how exactly would it work, will? Join the ropes with a double fisherman's knot and then tie the middleman in with a butterfly knot to one side or the other of the fishermans?
  21. There is a term that is used a lot and means a lot of things to a lot of different people. My definition is someone who always puts her interests ahead of the SO, AND who doesn't care if she offends others, but especially the latter.
  22. Bring the Camalot #4. The 5.9 crack variation is really nice and takes good gear. Enjoy the route, it's fun.
  23. Today I saw one of these: The Douglas squirrel isn't very common in urban areas, having been displaced by the more agressive Gray squirrel. I saw this squirrel in a narrow strip of forest in Bothell sandwiched between an office park and a housing development. The little guy was bucking all the trends.
  24. I've got a trail for the volunteers to work on, if we get some volunteers. The Eightmile trail in Darrington needs work. Part of it provides access to Three O'Clock Rock.
  25. I thought this thread was about Squid... Say, how's the dental work coming along? Got your smile back?
