The best thing about being a man is... what we can do with women.

see minx...you think this subject's okay... all right, I'll lighten up on ya now.
-
...never has someone done such an effective job with such poor spelling!

catbird, I recommended lettin' it die yesterday...but I see that Muff did a pretty good job of calling the minx out herself. Methinks minx=karen

Okay, I come back to this thread and see that minx basically restated the same thing that I reacted to before: Girlie, you didn't get what I said. If you think that I meant that since you weren't in the group refered to then you weren't offended, that is NOT what I meant. What I meant was that you are clearly a member of the United States of the Offended. Or the US of PC. Since when was any group garanteed freedom from jibes about stereotypes? And isn't humor the way we are s'posed to deal with a lot of life's problems? If you put trask's oneline smartass comment in context with his normal stuff, it doesn't look cruel and offensive to me. There is clearly a double-standard in this country about which groups can say what about the others. I'll bet that if the remark were directed at some other social groups, you wouldn't have felt the need to "call trask out." We can argue all day long about where you draw the line between what is meant as a slam, what is hurtful, etc., etc., but the bottom line is, everybody needs to lighten up with the PC crap. It leads people to believe that they are "victims," which is a pussified way to go through life. Those of us who grimly "call out" every comment are only helping to make this happen. Hell, just about every one of us is here in the New World because of an ancestor's hard-luck story.

Gee, Off, I feel honored...I think. I too had cc.com dreams, about a month ago. I have been trying to cut back (the doses of cc.com) ever since. Some days it works.

Two of the things I want to do this year are 1) run a marathon and 2) do a triathlon (olympic dist). However, I didn't run for a month after doing a 1/2 marathon, and for the past few weeks of moderate running, my knees continue to be sore. I have started doing Iliotibial band stretches, but that doesn't seem to be the center of soreness. Actually, my knees seem to be sore just on the inside of the kneecap. I have to believe that this is a tendon thing, and by stretching and getting miles in without overdoing the long runs (currently at 10 mi), I'm hoping to work though it. Has anybody had a similar problem and worked through it? Don't tell me to stop running because it will tank my plans for the year. But it is unnerving because I have rarely had knee pain of any kind, even when slogging in the mtns. Are there any knee-specific stretches besides the IB, or other resources to recommend?

good one ryland. We used to tell some of the tourist chicks that our names were Huntington Pier, Sebastion Inlet, etc.

When I was a teenager I told 'em I was a lover and a surfer.

Ooooh yeah!

ChrisT, I was responding to minx, not you. See? BTW, you know I only say nice things to you, in hopes of seeing more 'yoga' photos in future!
-
Minx, you are a victim of the trask troll. When I saw this thread, I knew somebody was gonna to claim to be offended by something sooner or later. We live in the United States of the Offended. Better to just let this thread die, boys and gurls.

Cold pizza, cold chicken, cold mashed potatoes---all excellent for any meal!

I missed this one yesterday. Trask, you know when the last real knockdown was? It was the "I've Been Humbled" thread...and I distinctly remember you consoling the poster and telling her to ignore what sounded like good advice from some people who were apparently in the know. So you have some ownership in the new Kinder, Gentler tone of the board. You helped steer it! (I do have to acknowledge that I believe you were providing solace to her based on the leggy personal photo, so your motives were at least unwavering.)

catbird...I'm not talking about the working guy in the lab. He's straight-up. And tying up w/ the other threads...Interesting that on the way home, I heard another NPR "anti-war" type story, mattp. And also, did ya catch NBC news? I'd call it fairly critical and questioning of Bush's Iraq and Korea pos'ns. Good night, all!
-
Ya mean perverted, not perverse. Well, this confirms the suspicion I had...that all those gurls answering pm's on "whosin" are communicating w/ trask!

I think that speaks volumes about the intellectual dishonesty of the Malthusian climatologist faction. I want honesty and impartiality in science. "Effective" scientists are essentially politicians and dishonest scientists who inevitably skew results. When life depends on it (say in aviation or pharmaceutical industries for instance), these "effective" scientists endanger or kill people because of their "effectiveness" in favor of their sponsor's ideas.

j_b, I'm originally a Virginian, and I can tell you that unless VCU added to their library of coloring books, they are not my idea of a bastion of knowledge about anything...except art maybe.

mattp said I agree with you abt no liberal cov'g of post-Afganistan...but interestingly there was a guy being interviewed yesterday or the day before, doing relief work in advance, about past and likely-upcoming effects of war on the Iraqi people. He did an effective job, since he wasn't too bleeding-heart about it. I know that mattp and others are pulling our collective leg to some extent with their "no real liberal coverage" theme. But for you real lefties, there will never be a mainstream news organization that you call "liberal," since your definition is so hard-over.
-
mattp, The difference between NPR and the talk shows is that a high %age of NPR is presented as news. The news stories, the emphases in the delivery, etc. are clearly liberal on NPR.

How about when yr dog snags a decoy line or two on the way in with a duck in his mouth? That's always good to shuffle the decoys... add to my list: jumper cables & emerg stuff, 2-50' extension cords, 100' of line for boat.

Chris, you have a new look this morning...no more redhead?
