thus the choice of the word "consider".

I gave this advice to a friend back home today. Regarding the ring, tell him this: "I'll consider giving your ring back if you take out 1/4 page ads in both the <newspaper1> and <newspaper2> that include your name, photo, and your confession that you were engaged to a beautiful woman for 3 years but chose to post an online dating profile anyway. While you're at it, I want to see the same confession on your AOL profile for one month, too, right under your photo." Let's hear some other fun and creative ideas from the peanut gallery.

Hey X, post photo of helmet please.

Reminds me of my near brush with death just over a year ago... I ultimately had bacterial staph pneumonia that required 5 days in the hospital with a chest tube sucking out goo, and weeks of IV antibiotics after discharge....among other things.

are you sure it wasn't one of those mountain goats driven to suicide by Mike Layton? Or, HELL, it may have BEEN Layton executing a sneak attack.

Will Domestic Cats in Wisconsin Become Fair Game? A hunter in Madison, Wisconsin has proposed that hunters be allowed to shoot free-roaming domestic cats. On April 11, 2005 the proposal to change homeless cats to an unprotected species will go before hunters of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress in the spring hearings of all 72 counties. Please help to persuade them to do the right thing. Campaign update: On April 11, the WI Conservation Congress voted 6,830 to 5,102 in favor of this proposal, but the WI Governor has stated he will not allow the proposal to succeed. web page web page

It looks like it may work to hold down your jack. Does it have a hole drilled in it where a bolt could go thru? another idea...did it show up after you had your brake work done? maybe it's a spare part the doofus didn't know how to put back on.

from http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4449637.stm Piste pressure on alpine plants By Fiona Proffitt The impacts of ski piste preparation on alpine plants are long-lasting and greatest at higher altitudes, Swiss researchers report. The effects are likely to worsen as global warming forces ski operators to use more artificial snow and open higher runs, the scientists say. They compared the vegetation on and off-piste at 12 Swiss ski resorts, in the biggest study of its kind. Overall, they found 9% less plant cover and 11% fewer plant species on-piste. Woody plants and early-flowering species were seen to be worst-affected. These differences were more pronounced at higher altitudes, suggesting greater future impacts as skifields move upwards. The work was undertaken by a team from the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF), the University of Zurich and the University of Potsdam in Germany. It has been published online in the Journal of Applied Ecology. Artificial snow Damage caused by grading machines, used to smooth out underlying rock and soil, was particularly severe, the team found. The effects we found will be a lot more dramatic in coming years Christian Rixen, SLF Machine-graded pistes had five times more bare ground than ungraded pistes and had not fully recovered 30 years after grading, even on slopes that had been re-sown. "At higher altitudes, especially above timberline, it's really difficult to re-vegetate areas that have been graded," SLF botanist Christian Rixen told the BBC News website. "The higher you are, the more difficult it is." Because it lies longer than natural snow, artificial snow favoured snowbed plants such as the alpine snowbell (Soldanella alpine) and later-flowering species such as heather (Calluna vulgaris) over gentians and other early-flowerers. These shifts in species composition became more prominent the longer snowmakers had been used. Wider impacts Such changes in vegetation are likely to have wider impacts, the researchers report. Decreasing the plant cover on ski slopes could make the soil more prone to erosion and reduce their value to summer users, including farmers and hikers, said Dr Rixen. A summer picture reveals the damage done by mechanical grading at Zermatt (SLF/Christian Rixen) His team recommended that extensive machine-grading and artificial snow-making be avoided and that ski pistes should not be established in areas of high conservation value. "The effects we found will be a lot more dramatic in coming years," warned Dr Rixen, because artificial snow production is increasing and ski runs are being developed at higher altitudes, where the vegetation and soils are more sensitive. The level of reliable snow is predicted to rise by 300-600m in Switzerland over the next 30-50 years because of global warming, according to a United Nations Environment Programme report. Already, the lower countries such as Austria and Italy use artificial snow on about 40% of ski runs and the figure, though lower, was rising rapidly in Switzerland, said Dr Rixen.

I would think a trailhead would be difficult to cart around. And I wonder what happens to the hikers coming back down the trail when they discover the trailhead has gone missing...do they end up in purgatory?

As Klenke was leaving Pub Club last week he heard some vile muttering coming from the bushes...something to the effect of "Eat Dog Dick You Whiner of a Wanker!". Knowing exactly what was skulking there in the shrubs, Klenke dove right in after it. After a horrendous fight that literally scalded the ear drums of several passing women and children, Klenke came out with the upper hand and pulled Trask out of his hiding place. AlpinFox was there with his ever-ready camera and a healthy dose of courage. He managed to snap this rare photo shortly before Trask bit off the end of Klenke's index finger and made his escape....muttering unfathomable curses into the night air the short while he was in earshot. So if you're curious just what this board has turned a once respectable citizen into...behold....Trask!

you'd run fast, too, if this were your other option. My father raises racing homing pigeons....his motto is "Fly or Fry." mmmmmm....bacon wrapped pigeon breast with orange glaze...I can taste it now.

Well....In all my days I've NEVER heard of such a sneaky, underhanded, and just plain unethical thief. At least they could do you the favor of smashing a window so you'd know they'd been there.

Check with Chessler Books. info@chesslerbooks.com 303 670-0093 or 800 654-8502. I climbed in the Costa Blanca area a few years back and didn't seem to have a problem rounding up a guide book. I believe we did order it from a UK company and it didn't take that long to arrive. I'd lend it to you, but it 'belonged' to the ex-gf and I don't have access to it anymore. If you want to scope it out in Seattle I may be able to arrange that...PM me if you want to pursue that option. There are also plenty of climbing shops in Barcelona where you can pick up guidebooks.
