  1. of course not...this is the RuMR tries to piss everyone off thread...
  2. Rudy....are you gay? not that that is a bad thing. why? Did you get in a tiff with pink and now out on the street??
  3. first off, CONGRATS man! that's awesome... secondly, kids, particularly some more than others don't necessarily fall the way an adult does... let me just say that my son, age 9, recently made an onsight attempt of a route (damn near had it) but fell off with his foot behind the rope going right...long sideways swinging arc, scraped several of his stickers on the side of his helmet...now any of you mothers want to tell me that helmet was unnecessary? Plus i can guarantee you that kid has one of the better lead heads out there, adult or kid, and physical capabilities to match... yeah, that's right...do what you want with your kid, but mine's wearing his helmet when we are outside...
  4. buried the hatchet...
  5. halifax, do you have kids? do they ski or ride a bike? if so, do you make them wear a helmet? that is all...its common sense... my life would pretty much be over if i were to cause irreparable harm/death to one of my children...

i have to say that mountain biking has as much relevence to a climbing site as does skiing...
  7. When you're a young adult and you feel comfortable placing yourself in harm's way (or you're just too stupid to know when you're doing it), that's your decision. If you get injured or chopped, only you are to blame for the aftermath (medical bills, somebody feeding you applesauce and changing your diaper, and/or the sorrow experienced by those who were close). When you're a parent and you place your child in harm's way, you aren't doing your job. Having said that, climbing can teach us to appreciate things many people overlook, and it can teach us the importance of concentrating when surrounded by danger. Climbing can teach us the value of developing routines for safety. Climbing taught me these lessons and gave me a confidence I was lacking, and I do wish for my children to experience similar development. I think there are other avenues to gaining the same knowledge, where the price for human error is less severe. I survived some of my near mishaps purely through dumb luck, and I realize things could have gone the other way. That's why I'm not encouraging my kids to climb.
  8. you may be right...i disagree that what happened is the worst case scenario, but we obviously see things differently... there is a difference between being petrified and being protected...its a gray area though...
  9. but i make them wear a helmet...
  10. get some euro-tail!
  11. thank you kind sir...personally, though, i do have a very hard time watching someone put a child into a position to get hurt...i always feel that if one can prevent something bad happening to a child, then speak up...adults, well, they are on their own, but children have only us for help or guidance... discipline, and other stuff along those lines, i stay out of it...but physical harm or injury, i try to mention something...not in your face, just "suggesting"...that was the point of my initial post...i just can't imagine sending a child up without a helmet and some instruction on ropes behind legs, etc...seemed the height of irresponsibility with very real potential for both short term and long term damage to the child...
  12. pretty much...can't you do better than that??? hey...when are you taking your kids to the club???

  20. oh kenny, sweetie pie...did i hurt your wittle feelings??? "So they're teaching kids how mindlessly easy it is to clip bolts?!? What a waste of time! Teach them something useful, like how to slot a nut, or cam a hex. I could teach a monkey to clip a bolt..." whole lotta respect there, buddy.... douchebag...i doubt your kids will be rescuing mine anytime soon
