  1. This weekend is SUNHOG weekend! Take a lawnchair and a half-case of your favorite beverage up to the treeline below Villard Glacier on North Sister. A 20+ year tradition on Memorial Day started by some folks associated with Corvallis Mtn Rescue. Ski the bowls and lounge in the fog! Unfortunately I can't make it this weekend, but I'm sure there will be a showing.
  2. Wow well I may stand corrected. That's still a bit less than 10560 ft. That amount of rope in 11 mm would be approaching 600lbs.
  3. I think that is just poor journalism. Most rescue lowers do not exceed 600ft. They are run through stations progressively down the mountain. Ropes longer than that become difficult to get in place. 2 miles! Maybe I'm wrong but that seems pretty ridiculous.
  4. There have been caving accidents attributed to this, where the sheath became so hot it liquified, leading to an out of control rappel and the victim in a pool of nylon at the base of the line. And this was with a brake rack.
  5. I think your link is wrong because it takes me to a review of the Subaru Outback. Oh wait.
  6. I really don't need to write any more. You wrote what you wrote and you can get semantic over it if you like, but I won't waste anyone's time further by responding. I am surprised, however, that you did not include some childish quip about my lack of reading comprehension in that last post.

and that daniel shore guy, talk about a fence sitter I agree with you will, it is left-leaning but informative and not sensationalized.

  11. well it is linear because it is basic trig, but I don't know about the season/latitude stuff
  12. sunrise is 1 minute earlier for every 1.5km of altitude.
  13. That would make sense since your horizon is farther away than at lower altitudes. If you were infinitely low to the ground your horizon would be right at your nose.
  14. mmm...nailgun to the knee

    What would you do?

If it was a new Jeep I would point to the "trailrated" logo and say pass whenever you want.
  16. candle chief?
  17. what's with the blue plastic goblet sitting on the table
  18. Move quickly on the traverse between Yocum Ridge and SGHW. You are directly in the line of fire for anything off the upper buttress. People have been shelled there. The route itself can still be in good shape that time of year. Hard to say with the relatively dry spring. Not a lot of people signing in for that route lately (not to say it has not seen some activity). Hope that helps and good luck!
  19. I could just see someone losing that shim halfway up a climb fumbling with it with gloves. Hmm, my crampon could be tighter here, let's take a break so I can adjust it. Oh crap there it goes! Then you are screwed unless you can crank up one size on the connector bar thing and get it on your foot. The shim isn't falling out or anything, but give the opportunity and climbers will make it happen.
