    end of an ERROR

Anyone who climbs in Oregon or north through Mt. Rainier can rest assured they have friends in the National Guard. Bush doesn't compare to these guys.

    Ronald Reagan

Is that from the Genesis music video? Thank god Genesis was around to set the administration straight. Where would we be without them? Don't cross Phil Collins
  3. I have not been there in summer but it is a killer hut, perhaps one of the finest in the ACC. The winter skiing/climbing options are truly unbelievable. Here are some photos/report from someone who hiked out to Fairy Meadows from the Great Cairn Hut over by Sir Sandford: http://www.snowman-jim.org/climbing/trips/1999-greatcairn/photos/ His reports from winter are there too. You will probably have the hut to yourself in August. It is hotly contested during the ski season though.
  4. I have the classic winter full windshield rainbow crack right over the defroster vents, and several smaller cracks that have creeped up to connect with it! probably not safe I guess Anyway my insurance deductable is cranked up high so I would probably pay in full to have it fixed.
  5. you can be busted for a cracked windshield? Is that a washington thing or is it true in oregon as well? My brother says it's a serious fine in New York as well. I'd better get that fixed I guess.
  6. several pickets, the requisite double-length "cascade" slings, and perhaps a midsize hex or two and a few nuts to protect the ridge section if you feel you need it (the rock climbing is quite easy, but there is some serious exposure).
  7. As always, _you_need_to_wait_ to get accurate information. It's pointless to even talk about stuff like belaying etc. Why even speculate? First it was a broken hand. Now someone is dead. You are not getting anything close to reality in live rescue coverage.
  8. You must understand how powerful the camera is on the bottom of that jetranger. The people on the mountain may not even be aware they are on television. The media usually seem quite accomodating to the people involved with a rescue. There are, of course, the bad apples in the bunch. So, how long until the first mention in the media of Liberty Ridge - the DEATH ROUTE where CLIMBERS GO TO DIE
  9. aren't they eyeing land on the south side somewhere now?
  10. Sat: Tieton Sun: Tieton Mon: Tieton ego sufficiently humbled. Boy I suck.

I was thinking the same thing... Scotty, metaphor can be effective, but do not put too much weight on your own ingenuity; it might collapse under the strain.

    Peeve thread

sounds like the heinous cling beta spew you occasionally have to endure while climbing moonshine d. etc. peeve 1) Store clerks intent on bagging everything, even if I have only bought one thing, and it is already in a bag 2) The strange looks people give you when biking in the rain 3) invisible head-height spider webs 4) a mosquito whining in your tent as you try to go to sleep 5) being woken up by the mosquito whining in your ear 6) people who gyrate around after they throw a bowling ball as if they can influence where it will go

    Dannyism?

Well I [insert reference to chestbeating pace I set back on Mt. Whatnot to confirm my street cred, perhaps with a touch of name-dropping] but I'm [insert thin veil of self-deprecation to poorly disguise boasting] so I don't think it's that great of a time.
