  1. what are you doing sitting around? I got a Hood summit today in sun and no wind and killer turns all the way to timberline. There's good snow to be had, get out and use yer new ride!
  2. ah yes, I was thinking of the 8 in a similar config to the EDK. I'd say a square knot or double sheet bend would be easier (faster) to tie than an 8 in the above application (w/half-fisherman's). Anyways I use the EDK w/o hesitation.
  3. negative on that, there's been at least one fatality attributed to figure 8 instead of EDK. Radium hitch is mainly used in organized rescue per the Mauthners out of Invermere BC. It is a munter hitch with a 3:1 system, most often used to release set prusiks on a rescue belay and as a shock absorber to protect the anchor.

  9. If you want to be out fairly regularly in quality winter snow in the PNW you will be skiing on "considerable" days. It is almost a default category in the winter.

you won't hear AT skiers bitching about how much better AT or tele is. They don't give a damn about what you are skiing, only what's on their feet and how much more sense it makes.

yeah and he's a killer climber and one cool dude besides so I can overlook the freshiez stuff. But anyone who has no tried skiing or given an honest attempt to use them on backcountry runs is missing out on one of the greatest outdoor experiences one can possibly have in the mountains!

Are you insane? Tex vigorously campaigns against the freshiez. He is the al quaida of freshiez. any freshiez-loving patriot would never resort to such blasphemy as quoting Tex when it comes to the piggedy-powpow

Nice coming back here after a few days to this CLASSIC! hahaha! Dude I've skied all the blacks at meadows and I only bit it twice on helens this week. I'll take all you wussy teleheads on. WICKED BRO!
  16. Skinned up Helens via Swift Cr. on Monday, under clear blue skies. Forecast was for partly cloudy so this was a real treat. Good snow coverage from Marble Mt to summit. Some occasional rocks but will be buried shortly. Little cornicing on crater rim. Ski down was sortof heavy powder, but not bad at all. A little tiring after 2 days skiing on Hood, but no complaints here. Boarder companion started a small slab slide on the lee slope of a ridge. Fairly small, but there it was. Skied down to east of skin track up, via gulleys. Luge ride out to parking lot on narrow ice trail. Blue skies for 1 day, what a treat.
