So...bring your luge for the decent down the Granite Sidewalk?

Good thoughts Sisu. I was raised in suburbia and am just taking up hunting at 33 after spending a couple years going on elk hunts with my uncle. I think people mislabel their "redneck" feelings; it is more a feeling of returning to a simpler, agrarian-type existence (for me, anyway). It is an escape from the PC, feminized society that surrounds us so much of the time. Can't wait, I leave in two weeks!!!!

It's nice, but spendy on gas and I don't have cover to sleep under if needed. It's a great truck, though. Maybe a Tahoe would be better, then I could lay the seats down and sleep; same with the ForeRunner but I haven't driven one. [ 11-01-2002, 12:44 PM: Message edited by: Greg W ]

I've carried Highlander's Chernobyl following pitches and it is pretty comfortable to climb with.

Sorry, my wife was looking for eggs; she thought Chicken F'er meant chicken farmer. I have corrected her in this and she is now disgusted with your poulty-lovin' antics.

In that case, I'm flying in my buddy Milton Friedman; he's a wildman. I think Harry Brown is also free tonight as well. Wayne LaPierre has been begging me to hang out, I'll see if he's free. Greg W

More ground clearance than my Sub, and more comfortable, though it IS an SUV gas guzzler pig thing. Haven't slept in it yet, so the jury is still out on this vital feature for mtn car. "Highlander"?? Vas ist das? Who makes it?

Very good points Shredder. Personally, having climbed sight unseen with several .com climbers, I choose climbs I know I can handle (in case I have to lead the whole thing) or am very specific about my objectives. If I post that I am looking for a partner to climb Dreamer, for instance, I am implying that I am looking for someone up to the task of swapping leads on such a climb. In a cragging situation, like the one you were in, it may be wise to have a conversation beforehand on what everyone is comfortable leading at and their experience. I have no qualms about supplying this kind of information to potential partners as I want them to have just as enjoyable of a day as myself. Greg W

Perhaps this could be arranged with a modest deposit. Say 15,000 up front? Don't be afraid DFA, Mattp is a bolt clipper, too...except his are usually about 25-30' (or more) apart!! I had a 2000 before I got the 2003 and I can't remember any accel. lag. I am probably not a good judge as I am used to a V-8 w/loads of power to spare. My main bitch is that the steering system is not stiff enough; meaning that I think it is all power, not power assist. I can't really feel the road like I can in my Chevy; it seems to oversteer. Gotta give props on the new H-6 engine; it rocks. -

Of course, DFA's climbing adventures rarely leave the highway, so clearance is not an issue. Not yet; the Outback is the wife/child mobile. Plus, the Chevy is every bit as plush minus the heated seats and dual sunroofs!

No, it is not noteworthy, DFA. Don't bring your work onto the .com.

But maybe you didn't mean it that way. Yo Iain, the wife of one of my hunting partners could kick my ass; she got her first elk when she was 8 months pregnant. What I meant was the movement over the past 10-15 years away from anything decidedly "masculine", that these activities are "bad", etc. I don't know if that explains it; oh, well. Greg W

How is the Tacoma extended cab for leg room (I'm 6'-2" w/creaky knees)? I have thought about the Toyota, either Tacoma or ForeRunner, but don't have any experience driving them and hear various reports on the V-6. Mileage on the Silverado is better now that they have the injected Vortec engine, still about 18mpg.
