  1. After Churchill saw Britain through "...our finest hour..." he was castigated and tossed out into the darkness by the British people. On the Speech, I liked it. Now I'd like to see some follow-up action.
  2. Despite getting some major facts screwed up and painting the hero of that debacle as a self-serving prick. Sure it was a great story. "Opinion based on what he observed"? He was passed out in his tent on the South Col when the shit went down. Even after Anatoly Boukreev told him his facts were incorrect and provided photographic proof, Krakauer published his story as is, and continued to berate the guy in public and at AAJ meetings. He's a prick that tried to bring others down because he felt guilty that he didn't/couldn't do shit when it really counted. That is a mixture of fact and opinion, flame away.
  3. For non-climbers, I am sure they would be.

    Name the Scribe

jordop's canadian, right? that's why I said Blanchard.

    Name the Scribe

Barry Blanchard? I'd say Steve House, but he never struck me as that depressed like Twight.
  6. Hey, thanks Dwayner. I've always wanted to read that, but I always forget about it when I enter the bookstore.
  7. Garmont Sticky Twist is the low-top version and looks like a good shoe; not too bulky. Also, Scarpa has a low-top that looks nice, but is spendy.
  8. No, no. They helicopter in and strap on the nitro, man!!!!
  9. I never said I approved of Homeland Security or George W. Bush in their entirety. Watch 'Minority Report', it's all done in the name of safety....It's coming!!!!

    Traskian Epiphany

Keyser Soze was a badass!! That was a great movie.
  11. Now, if I had said this, I would have been decried as a libertarian right wing extremist who should move to Idaho and become neighbors with Randy Weaver. That said, I agree Catbirdseat...It IS here and can get worse. Just wait for Pre-Crime to catch on - Minorty Report!!!!!!

He DOES type with a Hungarian accent.

Dru - what were you doing prior? Running, lifting weights, hiking? I get this too, on occassion, and it is usually after a strenuous activity; leads me to believe that it is somewhat caused by minor trauma or stress to the joint capsule or attached tissues.
  14. Name is familiar, was he on one of Scott's expeditions? Mawson was an Australian geologist who went to explore for the motherland and came back . But you are supposed to save that book for a long trip to a cold, kinda depressing place ... off the top of my head among other exploration books I liked: the arctic grail by pierre berton, the barren ground by mowatt(i think), great exploration hoaxes by dave roberts. j_b (aka, "leftwing wacko") - what are those three books about? I'm looking for new reading material.
  15. I just heard that John Krakauer has already securred the rights to grossly misrepresent the story of the rescue that may or may not happen.
  16. Name is familiar, was he on one of Scott's expeditions?
  17. I just finished "South" by Sir Ernest Shackleton, which is his "official" version of the Endurance Expedition. It is written like a trip jounal, which I liked; my wife didn't like this style as much. All in all, it is a fantastic read and, through his style, really makes plain the extent of privation and suffering that his crew went through between 1914 and 1916. What I found interesting is that his entire crew, once rescued, was eager to get back to England so they could join in the War. Very good read; I recommend it highly.
  18. That's bound to get sporty at some point. Best of luck, Jacques.

    Oil?

I agree with Trask's statements, but I don't think it's about oil, SC. If it were, we'd be hammering on the Saudis a lot harder; they have all the oil in that region. I think I read somewhere that Iraq only has something like 18% of the oil reserves in that region. I think Trask's assertions are closer to the real reason. However, as I've stated on this board before, GW is in danger of making the same mistake that George Sr. made: ignoring the domestic issues at home that everyone is REALLY concerned about during his chase of Saddam.
  20. Fuck. Never mind. I was thinking Gunn Peak, not Guye. Sorry.

    Traskian Epiphany

Actually, it was the waterfall on the Lake Serene trail. That thing was raging like I've never seen it; not even in spring. The trail had at least 6 major stream crossings (unavoidable water above my boot tops) and the base of the waterfall (Bridal Veil) was like walking into a fire hose. Pretty cool, all in all. Ah, I don't know why I was thinking about that; when I hike by myself random thoughts stream through my head. Whatever.
  22. I, coming from a different end of the political spectrum from AlpineK, agree with what he says here. Well written, AK. Greg W
  23. Kurt, I'm hurt. I thought we had a friendly understanding, man. I don't completely love GW, but I like him better than the other guy.

I think she choses that style on purpose.

Muffy, re-read a few posts above. It's not just women. It's not just women. It's not just women. It's not just women. If you think that the Doctor finds all the uber-cheesy cyber-groping perpetrated by the gutter-bound horndogs on this bbs any less yuck than that perpetrated by the femmes, you're mistaken. It lends the site a decidedly truckstop feel, in the worst possible way. Sounds like you're just jealous no one is hitting on you. hahaha, Byotch!!
