Well. I truly believe that we will put a major dent in terrorism. If we are able to put aside our political differences we may be able to advance our cause. I am not going to say that Iraq is or is not a good start in this thread, but I do believe that a large amount of force is the only thing that will be able to stop terrorists and those that support them. The only real question in my mind is this: Will we apply our power in the right countries and against the right people or let our political aspirations/pride dictate who we go after? This is the crux and I think that it is possible that this administration can do it, but they need to think of the country first. I also feel that the divicivness in our country that is shown on this board must be stopped. Whomever is in power we must do what we can to further our country and keep it the best in the World. I think you are asking a good question and showing great maturity in asking it. Lets hope others will ask it as well.

Paul, what are you talkign about? I never said that there weren't a lot of republicans in washington, a check of the registered voters would tell anyone that. I've also lived in VERY rural Eastern Washington, and I understand how our state is a microchosm of the nation as a whole in terms of population distribution and politics. All I was saying in my original post is that most of the blue states would seem like decent places to live (excluding SoCal and mid atlantic) but most of the red states would be places I'd hate to live (excluding the northern Rockies.) Whatever, It was clear that you were over-generalizing. I would not mind living in Alaska, Montana or any number of other states that went to Bush. baisically 50% of the states that went to Bush are pretty decent places to live with climbing and whatever else an outdoor enthusiast can dream of.

No, it was the one where we rebuilt our relations with the international community and attempted to reconstruct a cooperative approach to international policy. Where we apologize for what should have been our former leader's misguided invasion and hamfisted alienation of our historic allies, and try to move on, be constructive, and work together to right a bad situation. Or did you not read enough into what was being said? Forest for the trees, etc. That is merely an euphamism for what I just said.

Harpell, We've gone over this before. Again and again. You bring up conspiracy theories to debate this - then accuse "liberals" of wearing tinfoil hats. WW2 - the Japs bombed our asses. THEY STRUCK FIRST. We went to war with them. When someone attacks you it's well within your power to defend yourself. It is not a conspiracy theory. It is in every history book of any detail. It is a fact that FDR was forced into signing a document that meant that Japan was fucked. They either had to retreat or fight. Given their culture, it was obvious that they would fight. There is no doubt about that.

So is any war justified? Have there ever been any wars which were fought for the "right reasons." Truth is that people are always looking to attack you. If you give them an excuse (like genocide) they will do so and claim to be the good guys. It is the way the World works. If you do not understand this or are not willing to play by these rules, you have no place in international politics.

Why do you feel we need 30 when one is all that in necessary. He was attempting genocide on the Kurds. No matter what, the war is justified despite whatever reasons we were duped into believeing.

It doesn't help when Annan refuses to call the Dafur/Sudan Conflict a genocide and chastises Bush for using the term. Not having any troops left if just blatant hyperbole. There is not where even near a magority of our forces in Iraq and Afghanistan put together.
