  4. a breakthrough in my research
  5. CBS, just as there are good people and bad people, there are good Christians and bad Christians. Next time you say something stereotypical about Christians, think about it as if Mounties wee substituted in. "All Christians think eoolution is crap." "As an atheist, I get offended whenever Christians feel it is their duty to convert me." vs "All Mountaineers are overweight and wear shorts over polypro." "As an independent climber, I get pissed that the Mounties are always clogging my routes."
  6. well, i suppose i might be game. anyone else interested?
  7. eh, i dunno. i've never really dug quiz nights. maybe because i know jack shit about pop culture.
  8. What does that mean?
  9. halfway between a nibble and a byte, which in latin, would be sex
  10. And bolts wouldn't be so bad if they didn't scar the rock.
  11. I like Canada!
  12. I heard Dick Cheney tortures and mutilates Barbies too.

  15. http://www.mountaineers.org/climbing/News_Events/CN402_Rainier.html url fixed
  16. I'm not going to deny that I have high expectations of myself and others. I do try to make these expectations clear beforehand. But there are some lower expectations that I have that I don't feel it's necessary to make clear. For example, if I ask someone to do X by Friday and make it a priority, then I expect either for it to be done, or for that person to approach me as soon as possible if they can't get it done by Friday. Anyway, turned out not to be super-critical, as I called the registrar and their Mon morning grades deadline was flexible to the evening. Though my hand is tired from bubbling in all those grades!
  17. Well, thanks for the food for thought. I definitely need to work on being able to discipline a subordinate and being able to tell a superior I need more resources/time, and to do either tactfully. CBS/AlpineK, I think you both have some good points. I cope with stress by talking/writing about it. Stress accumulates on itself, I have a decently large base of baggage, and several causes of stress have been intersecting recently. I also forget the "sleep over it before you email/post it" rule -- in the past three years I've sent a few such emails to my advisor that estranged our relationship.
  18. I don't know how we won. The Titans made some stupid plays at the end, such as going for the big deep on a 3rd and 2.
  19. If you climb under someone, you also put an unfair burden on the person above, as the person above is now aware that they can unintentially cause you grave harm.
  20. The Seahawks are sucking it up against the Titans.
  21. I'll be mostly working until Jan 2, given that now I only have one job (research) as opposed to two (teaching and research). Planning 3 days off at Baker, but that will probably be it.
  22. they're ruining the SOund of Music!
  23. because they enjoy getting riled. what was it, the howard stern movie, that said that most people watched him because they hated him and they wanted to see what he'd say next?
  24. Hands on, as in I have to repeatedly check in on him and make sure things are procceding as desired. My other TA is great. I can treat him in a much more empowering style, as in, I'd like to to grade X by Y date, and I trust your judgment in grading according to my specifications. Let me know if you get behind or something weird comes up.
