Thinking of Hueco Tanks, where rumor was that Skinner got under the skin of some local climbers who called in the rangers for help: whining, crying and complaining to them. Later- everyone got screwed due to this bullshit. And it is exactly that: bullshit. Climbers can be their own worst enemy. Don, you can make a bigger impact by being there and having these discussions mano-y-mano with these pups, teaching them out of love and helping them grow. I see Jimmy O do this all the time, and he has shaped Beacon Rock and it's strong traditional ethics via that method alone. He has no internet access and rejects the computer totally as a way to transmit these kinds of ideas. Spraying some of this crap on the internet is pointless and may in fact actually be counterproductive as people shut off their thinking caps in total rejection. So you are apposed to leaving any vertical wilderness to future generations?

i haven't seen a new argument, i see the same clownish posts (in fact, often including clown pictures). that isn't to say there is a new argument or needs to be. you and dwayner's position on the matter is quite clear, and it hardly needs more explaining. you could just refer to the volumes of posts that have been made where your opinion is stated over and over again. and it must be frustrating to have your opinion drug through the dirt, time after time. the bolt (BLT) war discussion almost never fails to generate pages of animated discussion featuring pictures of clowns and sandwiches, and almost never ends on a respectful note. so perhaps if you have something to say when you see a post that features a new bolt you disagree with, or a tactic employed that disagrees with your particular chosen style of climbing. try saying it respectfully. the pictures of clown and acidic commentary don't really help your cause. i'm not saying to necessarily expect respect from the rest of the users because of the history you and dwayner have with the board. but maybe you can turn the tide, and you can win hearts and minds instead of attracting contempt. i have complete respect for your point of view, even if i might not agree with it %100 of the time. but i think most (but not all) of the contemptible disagreements happen AFTER you lose respect for the person at the other keyboard. so if you truly want to have a conversation about your point of view, first you need to recognize and respect that others might not agree with it. you aren't going to win their hearts and minds be suggesting they are clowns, even if they are acting like them. for instance, in your post above you call on Bill and Off to stop being negative...yet how negative is your post? how are you different from Bill other than you own your own personal trademarked CORRECT OPINION. I used your post as a jumping off point. I do not feel any need to defend Dawg or attack you. You two just happen to be currently posting interesting arguements with points I wanted to address.

Personal choice is one thing. Stating an opinion as though it is a fact is another. I have always liked Dawg's posts and feel he is contrary to popular opinion but not any more a curmudgeon than any other poster with 500+ posts. You are using personal attacks to hide your unwillingness or inability to look in the mirror objectively. Just because you don't like his opinions, MattP and anybody else in the majority here,does not make you any less a curmudgeon than he. It depends on who you ask. Dawg's latest post is clear and informative. It comes from a mindset that we are all responsible for our actions as in the bumper sticker, "Think Globally, Act locally". It is a clearly supported philosophy in relationship to global warming, poverty, and you name it. You guys who diss Dwayner and his ilk are being as short sighted as the GW/Cheney ilk. You just do not see where this will end up. How many bolts will there be before you start saying "Hmmm. Maybe we should carefully consider this."?

Speak for yourself. We ARE part of the current generation. Would that it were not true. It is wanton bolting I speak of. Not every bolt is evil but the self-rightous spewing of bolts without regard to the interests of others. The battle lines are grey to be sure. But the arguement should be had. That is what Dawg is talking about. The issue of ethics is upon us and we choose to ignore it.

The Dawg posts the truth. Our generation will be cursed by future climbers as short-sighted, self-centered, and less remarkable than previous generations of climbers. There are exceptions but they are few. Just because we have the technology does not mean we should plaster the world with it. The long term consequences are huge. But I waste my fingers here................
