  1. Misread the title. Nothing to see here.
  2. woah. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-28179914
  3. I'd be really surprised if someone on this board hasn't caught wind of this, but I did not see anything posted, so I am sharing a link to a report of an impressive ski climb and descent. Here you go: http://slcsherpa.blogspot.com/2013/06/mount-rainier-speed-skiing-35755.html?showComment=1370646170663#c6377561125828363462
  4. Seems like it is plenty cold right now. . . or was the sun doing a number on the route? http://www.atmos.washington.edu/data/rainier_report.html I've been out of the state for months, though. How warm was it up there, Rowan1?
  5. The problem I have had with my Garmin 305 is that the battery, even at its most conservative setting, runs out in 12 hours max. Its a great tool for running, but when climbing, I would have preferred a barometer-watch. Perhaps the new models have better battery life, though. Just my 2 cents.
  6. Awesome!
  7. Wanted to add my 2 cents. I have the quantum techs and love them for water ice. They are light, the picks get great purchase and they look rad. I only wish they had a more substantial spike, but hey, people do big faces with Nomics, and the spike is comprable. Quarks just plunge a lot better.
  8. Nice. What breed is your pooch?
  9. Oh good. Thanks!
  10. Thanks for your report. Was the 'trench' (aka boot path) still visible the whole length of the route?
  11. Not sure if this video has been posted before. . . Pretty funny, though. Old School Ratings
  12. Hey all- I have got some good advice here over the years, so I thought I would try my luck again. I am looking to retire my current workhorse all-around rope and get a new one. I need a rope with a strong sheath (I climb on quartzite) which I can also use on ice (some sorta water resistance). I am hoping to spend less than my weekly wages. . . any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Ropes I've looked at: NE Equinox Edelweiss Element II
  13. Get some quicklinks or real rap rings and stick them on your harness so that you avoid the pesky problem of stuck ropes. Not to mention that pulling rope through webbing will destroy the webbing. . .
  14. Nice. Does Bessequartz have 300' prominence? I am not knocking the climb, just wondering if it should be on the homecourt list.
  15. Pretty good closeout price here if you are an XL.
  16. Are you finding much 'in' to climb? I am going to school in Provo and purportedly Bridal Veil came down a day or two ago. One week of warm weather did it in, even though it was plenty fat a week ago.
  17. Dude, I love the hook on the tree! Haha, I'd be right there with you.
  18. This is an interesting, and seemingly sound study, conducted by people at Strike Rescue, which I think deserves a read. Sorry if its already been posted. Some of their findings: -Lower failing point found in predrilled hole (re-boring), though not significantly lower. -Screw strength is greatest at ~15 below horizontal. - A-Threads (vertical abalakov) is stronger than horizontal v-threads (traditional abalakov). Averaged breaking point 14.4kN vs 7.5kN. Here is a of their testing re-boring strength.
  19. Thats a beautiful thing you have done there. Thanks for posting.
  20. I remember seeing that as well, which is why I thought this would be so easy. . . Rather than risk ruining the fang or the spike, I think I'll just pick up a pair of used quarks. They come with the pinky rest and from what I am seeing here it is pretty easy to add a trig rest for matching. Thought?
  21. Like a moron, I bought the viper/cobra fang mod without checking if it would fit. And, as the attached pictures illustrate, it doesn't fit (Much appreciated if someone could get them to post in the thread). I think my tools, which I bought used, are a year or two too old. Am I right? I read here about people shaving the metal on the spike off to give it a thinner profile. How might this work? It looks I'd still need to drill a hole to fasten the fang on.
  22. At least the first pitch got quite a bit of traffic today too. . . I put some photos up on the page I linked above, I would post them here but cc.com isn't letting me today.
  23. I'll let you know what I see if I drive up the canyon, but my guess is you could find stuff to climb. This is probably the first full week it has stayed under freezing ( noaa forecast). Bridal Viel is almost certainly still flowing. Some other lurkers here might have better beta, though. Its been a weird fall. It'll get cold, then we'll have a day when its in the upper 40s in the valley. Maybe the result will be good for ice. . . I dunno.
